Mine would have to go to white ischia. Yes out of all the fancy named figs out there i am choosing it
Been a work horse for feeding birds and squirrels! Dont know how they would have survived! ! ANYWAY pouring down rain when its ripening not a problem it loves it. Dry weather still taste the same as wet weather. Tree grew so fast this year it has stretch marks on the trunk. ( split the skin ) taste is alwYs very thick sweet and just the right amount of crunch.

My season is just starting, they are all young trees. I'm hoping for long fall so they can all ripen. 

So far Vista is consistently yummy.  I don't know how it handles rain, rain keeps missing us.  I can attest to it thriving in the heat though (but all my figs like the heat).

Sounds like your gonna have some good tasting squirrels this season :)

Don, freezer going to be stuffted with squirrel from front to back . !!!! Big or small. They all will die.
Fried squirrel. Squirrel gumbo. The rest of the squirrels will be baried in the fig feild.

I've sampled quite a few different early and late figs, from Louisiana to N Carolina. Chicago, champagne ,Smith ,LSU purple ,from LA ,outstanding!
Lyndhurst White from Dennis' orchard in NC tremendous , huge and awesome. Thanks Dennis,
Large dark fig from Phils' orchard( cannot remember the name if my life depended on it,heeeelp Phil), PH, Chicago (mine) also outstanding.
I know it's more than one but that's how I feel. I just love a good fig, no matter what the name or origin and like Dennis says ,the best tasting fig is the one in my mouth!!! Lol

Hey Dennis. Was "La Goccia d'Oro" the small yellow fig that was placed somewhere between The LW and BM in front of your Garage? We sampled a few of those also and some (not all) were also exceptional .

So far, I haven't had too many ripen up.  I think it's going to be a few weeks yet.  However, I will say that the Attilio Purple is wonderful.  Taste is like wild strawberry jam with a bit of crunch to it.

My biggest delicious surprise this year was Kathleens Black. This is a 3 year old tree that only ripened for the first time this year. It is in a Bill's Figs SIP with 100% mushroom compost
It was large with the most delicious berry flavor.

ISCHIA WHITE 2015 ---> It has a closed eye which makes it very rain resistant. Keeps that sweetness tucked inside the fig. They are like sweet candy poppers! I totally agree with you Richie!

Aside of my usual suspects-
This year it was Black Portugal ,Flanders really showed great promise for a small plant.

now the verdict remains to be seen with Niagara Black and bumper crop of Excell.

My Inground figs did not produce since they were all frozen by this years harsh winter. However, of all my potted figs, my overall winner was no doubt RDB. Great taste, excellent productivity, and most importantly: it was able to ripen fruit (and still is since it still has some fruit on it). 
Thanks for sharing the white ischia pics and info. They definetly look good, even though I do not carry that many white/green/yellow figs.

Great topic Richie!

Its a little early here in Niagara zone 6 to select the best overall fig of 2015 since they are just starting to ripen. 

So far my leading 2015 candidates are;

- Sicilian Black JR for its amazing taste, fig size and huge breba production (20 brebas on a 2 yr old tree in container).
- Melanzana (long) nice sweet taste for both breba and main crop and xlarge main crop figs.  Seems to be very similar to LdA.  
- Atreano 2nd year plant is blowing away the other figs in production of nice xlarge size figs, nice aroma, sweet taste and juicy.
- Desert King for its relentless great tasting breba production

Great idea Richie!  Hopefully people update this list as season progresses.

For Zone 6 in ground it depends on the 1st hard frost date typically mid to end October.  The hard frost will drop the unprotected leaves so very little if any fig ripening after that.
I have a temp coldframe that I set up on Oct 1st for my main fig producers and it extends the fig season a couple of weeks for me to early November.

I need to update my pick. Just had a Black Madeira from my tree, and it has vaulted past Pastilierre. Now if I could just have a plate of Black Madeiras and Galicia Negras, I might be able to choose between the two:)

Black madeira rally is i black fig. Some black figs are purple black. This gal here is a deep beautiful black. Nice looks very nice.

I'll have to go with Strawberry Verte this year,just fantastic when properly ripe.An explosion of flavor
while still maintaining good texture.I doubt the fact that I just ate one of these has clouded my opinion.<G>

I mentioned Kathleen's Black earlier but another wonderful surprise is the Nero 600m I received 2 summers ago. It was also a slow starter, but this has that jammy bomb flavor I love.

Without a doubt my best fig was Negronne, they were wonderful! It is 2 yr, potted, and produced about a dozen figs. They had thin tasty skins and melted in your mouth, like some kind of jam, but not overwhelmingly sweet. I could eat them all day.

Overall, my figs did not have a good year. All the inground ones froze to the ground, so they had to start back from scratch. The only one that did very well at all was the Hardy Chicago, it came back strong and made 2-3 dozen figs. My Vista dropped all its figs, again, so I am removing it this fall.

As for the potted ones, I was gone way too much to baby them the way they needed. Every time I would come back from a trip they looked on the verge of death. I am still amazed the Negronne produced what it did considering how little water it got sitting in a 5 gal bucket.

Just noticed that the white ischia pics that figpig and Gardencrochet posted look like two different figs. The description by Condit says the pulp is strawberry and Rolling River says rich strawberry. Condit also states that the leaves are mostly three lobed. The pics shown by figpig do not match the descriptions or other photos. Wonder if there are more than one fig cultivar going by the name of white ischia.

John, Gardencrochet's might be pollinated and that could very well affect the pulp color.

On flavor alone my top figs were Figo Preto, Bisirri Large, Battaglia Green, Adriatic JH and Sucrette (Baud).  Honorable mention for Violette de Bordeaux, Ronde de Bordeax and Red Lebanese (Bekaa).

I had a RdB in August that was spectacular.  I'd have to put that one at the top of the list for this year, but I have some Preto that may ripen soon which will likely take the win.  We'll see!

The Galicia Negra that Harvey brought for tasting at Gary's was the best fig I've tasted this year. 

From figs off my own trees, which are all 2 years or younger, it'd be Strawberry Verte with Violette de Bordeaux as a close second.

I have to go with Conadria, it has a tight eye like white ischia and is my only fig and it is the only fresh fig I ever had, but I don't know how the birds know there ripe! Anyway I tried my breba crop, main crop will get here soon!

This year my best figs were those that ripened in July and August.
No special order but these have very good to sweet acid balance that I highy esteem;

Hardy Chicago- when not fully ripe has a sweet tart zing that makes me smile. When fully ripe it's sweeter and retains its acidity. Purple edible skin This fig got me into figs.

Grosse Montrouse De Lapari- Large green fig lively sweet acid balanced flavor. Reminds me of a plum in flavor. Nonedible skin is latex rich so it's best to peel first or eat very carefully.

Sals Corleone- Purple fig with some green tinging. Tastes best when fully ripe. was sort of bland sweet when just newly ripe but uf given two days to fully soften it is has a way better complexity of flavor. edible skin. Gives lots of fruit.

Alma- edible skin nice sweet fresh flavor. Just enough acid berry pep to make it a keeper.

Smith- I looked forward with great anticipation to this one. At first taste, (yes I picked it a bit too early) I was not all that impressed. Sure it had beautiful blood red pulp but it was just sweet and not complex I was a little bummed. Ah but, waiting for its other fruit to ripen while waging a seige to keep back my very eager children (to my figs, my kids are my birds and squirrels actually hehe). I let a few ripen more fully and that made all the difference.
Sweet acid, sorta peachy plum like in flavor. It's a keeper. Good rich berry flavor.

LSU Purple- Large sweet mild berry flavor. Very Nice.

Finally got to taste Mary Lane- Sweet smooth, mild. Sugar flavor.

JH Adriatic- Nice berry flavor. Bright interior. This is it's first year producing for me.

Negronne. Figgy flavor I was not wowed. Sweet, small sparse fruit and very pretty to look upon but see, I am biased towards strawberry, peachy, flavors. This is it's first year and it may need more time and nutrients.

Hollier- Sweet figgy flavor. Sugar, honey type in my opinion. long growing season. Long spread of time passed while waiting for individual figs to ripen.

Olympian- figgy with a slight hint of berry flavor. Slowly ripening now. zone 7b

This season brought little rain so it was challenging to keep everything watered and from losing fruit.
