When can I put this cutting outside?

I rooted several cuttings of a 'white fig' from the owner of a nursery nearby.  Most are still under lights and doing well.

I brought this one upstairs and have it sitting at the kitchen window.  It is presently in a 16 oz clear cup with a red cup surrounding it.

Roots are visible throughout.

When can/should I put this in a larger pot and drop it on the deck?  Anything special I should do (humiidity dome, etc.) when I do bring it outside?

The original cutting was taken in the middle of May or so.

I'm told the figs ripen in August, so I'll post photos of the figs and leaves to get a better handle on what I'm actually growing.  This is my first fig.

Thanks all.

Andrew

Andrew,

If that is what they look like in your pic now, I wouldn't pot up yet. You could put them outside under shade, say on a covered patio and gradually over a period of a few weeks, increase sun. Be careful about watering, they dry up much faster outside exposed to the elements. Good luck!!

None of my green cuttings made it, even the rooted ones. You can see from the picture, top is dried. This could be a good sign or bad. If the top dries up and comes off, it will seal the end and prevent further drying. If not, it will continueto dry up and kill the whole cutting.

You want to keep moisture around the cutting, until it begins to harden.

Once the top is harden and there is no further sign of drying up, you can take it outside under some shade.

I have said this too many times, I am sure: You have come this far, successfully, why be in a hurry? Take a little time, have a little patience, and you won't blow your hard work.
