Is there a certain time frame in which you stop fertilizing your trees - pot grown and what area are you in? Thanks.

This a good question, because one should stop early enough to allow hardening-ff before trees go dormant and the cold comes.

If you use long acting fertilizer, stop now.  If short acting 4-6 weeks before it starts getting cool at night.  That's my plan and I'm in Z6.

I am planning on going thru August. I use a weak hydro organic and my plants seem to lighten rather quickly when they get just water. I think your growing medium will also affect this decision, I would think something like the gritty mix will leach out pretty quickly. I have a Meyer lemon tree growing in gritty mix, it's not for me, seems similar to a big rockwool cube. Completely dependant, "Aint nobody got time for dat!" I'm thinking about pulling it out and up potting my aggressive Atreano into that pot with my regular fig mix.

I am afraid fertilizing since using 20-20-20 so i only use compost tea for all fruit trees and they look fine.

maybe ill use slow release pellets later on.

Pattee,
The usual recommendation is the end of July in our zone, 2 months before the end of the growing season.
I have noticed that several cultivars (varieties) actually harden (lignify) the green growth faster, and require less time.

If the plants are in a warmer zone or will be stored above freezing, that date can be pushed back to a later date, because there is less chance of damage to the new, tender growth.

Usually I stop end of July like Pete is saying the normal recommendation is, I find some yellowing leaves by end of August (I use fish fertilizer only before) so I may go to the second week of August depending on the trees and how they look,  I am thinking I will go to first week august but I will back of my rate to 1/2 of what I am using now, and start adding potassium, then water once a week with a potassium fertilizer (for me this is kelp meal soaked in water)

I depends on the length of your season and the coldness of your winter.

You need to stop early enough that new growth gets hardened off before winter cold (frost and freeze) begin.

I may push till the end of August this year.

About now I stop fertilizing. Time to harden up wood, less water too. Its fishing season for sports fisherman, less time for figging.
