When is time to fertilize a new rooted cutting ? What fertilize do you use?

This is one of those questions that elicits different responses depending on who you talk to.  It is generally agreed that you have to be careful applying fertilizer to a newly rooted cutting as they are sensitive to being over fertilized.  I typically start adding a weak liquid fertilizer solution (foliage pro) every few days to cuttings after I transfer them from moss (or root riot cubes) to cups and have not had any problems.

I start off with 1/4 tsp of Foliage Pro in one gal of water and mist them once a week to begin with, this is after
they are in what ever planting medium I use

I've used a little fish fertilizer in a 32oz cup that has a 2 month tree.  It seems happy...  I'll add some other Fertilizer when I up pot.

As soon as I see roots I'm watering my cuttings (in perlite) with hydroponics solution.
Many fertilizers get their nitrogen from urea. I do not use a solution that has urea in it.

I'm with Rich, as soon as its rooted.

I pre-wet the cutting potting mix with General Purpose Miracle Grow @ 1/2 teaspoon/Gallon of water and use the same for the first few times, then @ 1 teaspoon/gallon of water until they are up potted to 1 gallon containers.

Thank you all for your replay. I want to use organic fertilizer on my figs so I 'll probably try a fish fertilizer like James mention.

Hi Figarita,
There are stick for plants that last 6 weeks. I use those ones - they are easy to quantify .
With liquid fertilizer, it is a bit more tricky IMO .
You should fertilize as soon as you put the cutting in dirt - the dirt should sustain the cuttings growth .

My promix #4 that I use with perlite 50/50 for initial planting has a starter nutrient mix and some limestone.  Would this not suffice until the cutting starts actively growing with 2 or 3 leaves? 

as soon has they have enough roots. meaning when i feel like it once i see the roots. it's little tricky. too much can cause issue, too little doesn't do much. i've been fertilizing the cuttings in cup as soon as they have enough roots and top. just half of tiny scoop on the thing that comes with MG in i guess 32 oz or more water until the water has just a tint of blue. not very scientific.. once they go into 1 gal, i give them 1/4-1/2 normal does.
