When should I take them out? NJ

NJ fig Entus.,

I'm new to the Fig world. I started last year and have several plants in storage in a plywood box I built in the back of my house. I peaked in this weekend and most of them survived, they have green tips on them except one.  They have been outside all winter, when should I take them out and give them light?

I was thinking of pulling them out soon, and if the temps get too lo, I would put them in the garage till the  temp is above freezing. My garage is attached to the house, so it's above 45F.

Thanks.
Peter

Hi Pmui,
if outside the night temps are above -5°C, you can take them out. Even better would be that night temp is above 0°C .

i think that would be in a couple of weeks, if the weather stays on track.

Thanks.

3 weeks of constant good/warm weather out they come.

April 28 is what my Burpee gardening app says for putting tomatoes in the ground this year.
Last year I did April 15 and had to cover them a few times.
I still had tomatoes on July4th

The general rule to let (dormant figs) them dogs out, is to go with local nature.
Watch local street/backyard trees (e.g., maples); when the buds first start to
swell, showing spring is there, it is the right time.

However, you mention that your figs are already showing some greens.
They will need to be brought out (in shade) as local temperatures permit.

Hi Peter...I live pretty close to you and I have not taken any of my trees outside yet...too cold...yesterday and this morning there was a light frost on the cars...this would probably damage any new buds...I'm going to wait and see what April brings...good luck.
