I know brebas will form on last years wood, but I was wondering at what point I should start seeing figlets start forming on this years growth (if I should be lucky enough).

My 2yr old trees have grown about 4 ft this year and the ones I purchased at Lowe's were already 4-5 ft tall & have pushed out about 1-4 ft of growth.

I just thought with it already being June I would see a little something by way of figlets already. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I am zone 5a and I usually expect and observe main crop fig embryo formation by mid-June.

Other zones may see main crop embryo formation earlier.

Jenn, are you pinching? It will encourage faster fruit set.

Some of mine (here in paradise, with extremely warm winter this year) some were formed in Early April, and some are just beginning. It depends on weather, variety, pruning, etc.

Jenn, pinch all that new growth and you will see figlets within a week. This works like a charm.

I haven't pinched anything yet. I will probably try it on the trees from Lowe's, but I think I will let the 1-2 yr olds grow however they will till next year. That will hopefully give me 4 trees with figs & 9 more for next year.

I am in 7b, and my main crop started to form about 2-3 weeks ago depending on variety and size of the trees.
But i also pinched most of my figs...
Although, not all started.

mine are thinking about it, I can see small bumps thinking about becoming figs so hopefully in the next two weeks or so for me here or I will need a very warm season to have any figs.

Great question! I was wondering the same thing but live in a cooler climate so mine have only just recently made it outside.

My main crop are starting to form in 7b New York City.

Here in Central Arkansas, zone 7b, I have at least baby figs on all in ground trees. The latest to appear were on my Hardy Chicago, May 28.

Well I went out and did a "little" pinching. Only like 5 though. It scares me to do it, although I don't know why. Lol So let's see if it does anything.

Here in zone7, Brebas started forming in april, and some maincrop started showing up this week.
Not all strains are showing the maincrop. I've seen some unifera not showing the figlets.

My main crop figs started forming on some trees a couple weeks ago. Some trees I'm still waiting on.
