I actually took 4 of them yesterday before I worked on the air layer. I was surprised with the root growth on the main tree!! I planted it about 3 inches deeper then the pot it came in and the whole circumference of the tree has roots!
I thought it was going to be a fairly easy operation to get the suckers - I was wrong:( I ended up breaking them off, since I couldn't get in there to easily. When I planted the tree I wasn't thinking about having to crawl under and around to get suckers, air layers and silly me - the ripe figs! So I planted flowers and veggies around it - OOOOOOOOOOOPPPSS!
I think my garden is going to grow next year - in square footage ;)
