Where do you guys get your weather from

What website or source do you get your weather from? I have a few apps on my phone. I use accuweather the most, but it gives different predictions for temp then their own website and the day after they say the temp was way off then even they predicted. According to what the lows at night actually where my trees could have been out all week.

I've been comparing the weather channel and national weather service sites. The Weather Channel has an android app, not sure about NWS.

i compare weather channel, local channel and what came with my android. they all give different temp, and depends on when i check the temp prediction will change by the hr on my android app. i just go with ballpark of what's gong to happen and don't worry about it as long as one of them doesn't indicate going below 32 degrees.

I get mine from aol i type in my zip code and wala.

I have run comparison calculations for my job and we ended up going with Accuweather for predictions and wunderground.com for the historical information. Accuweather was consistently the closest but on an hour by hour basis they can easily be off 10-15% I generally get the frost/freeze warning from the National Weather Service but look to Accuweather for hourly estimates. Even then you are going to have microclimates that will not make the estimates exact. You are looking for precision more than accuracy but both would be nice. If I know that Accuweather precision has a 15% deviation on the outside then I really start paying attention when temps are forcast to hit 36.8 F
But we had a freeze warning a few weeks back 2 houses 2 fig trees similar conditions 2 miles apart with similar conditons in the same zipcode. One had the brema crop killed the other made it both were unprotected so it isn't an exact science when it comes to weather preditions.

I use wxnation.com, weatherbug on my taskbar, local weathercast which you can get from wxnation if you missed local news and I pick up a remote sensor HD.  Unfortunately I gambled and lost last night.  The forecast was iffy on the edge of 33F but it went down to 31F, evident by the ice in the birdbath.  I've brought everything in for tonight though.  The forecast is for 29F.  Its that last two hours before sun rinse where the last two degrees drop when you also have clear skies and no cloud cover.  At 3am it was 35F.  I'm not sure about the extent of the damage yet.  You can see that some varieties fared better than other.  I don't think I lost anything.  Its just that the new growth took sporadic hits.  Lesson learned.  An hour or so of fig shuffle or a year of regret.

Somtimes, I just poke one of my fingers out the window...

Thanks guys, those are some cool, sites. I am going to try them out. This brings up another question. I noticed a few of you guys are keeping an eye out for 32 degrees? I thought 38-40 was as low as you wanted to go? I have been keeping my stuff inside. Even when the temps are predected to be 35-36. I have heep them inside all this week because the temp predictions are all over the place 39-40 for two nights then 34-35 one night and back up. I figured why lug everything out for two days. The weather ended up being 39-41 every night this week.

i'm not sure what the temp to watch out for. but last year when the temp went down below 32, all the leaves were damaged. they are saying it will go down to 34 tonight. unless the temp goes really down and we have frost, i'm not moving them. i know it's only 10 gal tubs and only 3 trees, but last time i moved them, i pulled something in my shoulders and i couldn't play my bagpipes, and our band has competition coming up in less than 2 weeks.

Hi Marcus
My stuff has been outside for a while now. I generally don't worry until they predict under 33. Sometimes the leaves get frost burn but it beats hauling them in and out.

Sometimes I give mother nature the finger too.

Thanks, guys. I guess I shouldnt be so cautious. I think I have had then back inside the garage for about two weeks. Since that really cold night in the NE. They are still leafing out. I guess what's helping is the garage had windows and they are getting some light. I was planning on putting them out tomorrow.

Tmc,
LOL,
What I meant is that the weather is a very 'unpredicacable' subject...

I shop for weather at Walmart. I find that looking at the actual satellite and radar images from Wunderground (http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?ID=NKX&region=d1&lat=32.72109985&lon=-117.16430664&label=San%20Diego%2c%20CA)  gives me the best idea of what is coming, after seeing what the general trend is on my local news channel.

Gorgi wasn't so far off. Sometimes just looking out the window is more accurate than the TV weather.

This link is good for gardeners in Georgia.

I use weather.com  and   http://local.msn.com/weather.aspx for weather maps and extended forecasts.

I use WSU AG WeatherNET . I get an Email @ 0630 every morning . They have the most sophisticated doppler radar site in the Northwest . WSU has  extensions offices in most of Washington's counties. The site gives air temp, Humidity, Dewpoint, wind ,rain ,snow, Solar radiation,Soil Temp, Leaf wetness and GDD (Growing Degree Days)

But for the most part I count on my weather rock , out in my front yard. It's about the size of a VW bug. If it's WET ,It's raining . If it's WHITE It's either Snowing or frozen.

To me it doesn't matter, there's no use.
Yesterday I was in Butte, MT and it was rain and snow and miserable.

At the end of the day I was in Rapid City, SD and it was 75F.

Tonight, I'll sleep with the truck running and heat on as it will drop to about 35F here in Brooklyn, Ia.

And some wonder why I'm breaking apart?

Strange fig weather we have?

BTW, I have Yahoo and the weather channel downloaded onto my iphone. Two different forecasts all the time

One more thing,

If you're ever out and about and you happen to see a whole bunch of cows huddled together with all their rears pointing at the same direction you can bet that something from that direction is about to hit the fan and it's coming your way.

Ah Rafed,
If your out and about and a cow comes by off the ground. Your to close to the tornado. Here in Florida I use FAWN. The Florida Automated Weather Network. It is what the farmers around here use.

I think the pilots use NOAA? Rafed, that is an interesting tip. Now I'm always going to look when I see cows.

Oh no! Cow tips? I smell a straight line.

Marcus,

It's a fact we all know about that the animals have much better senses than us humans do.

Touching, smelling, seeing, hearing and on and on.

I mainly use two sources. One is a local tv station who has a local weather page with nice little 'live' maps and has had a reliable track record.  The other is the national weather service where I've linked to my own specific location.  http://weather.gov/

And of course looking out the window. I can see the Pacific in the distance. :)

Speaking of which, we did see some of the white fluffy stuff falling in my backyard today.

I don't dare say the four letter word.
