Good evening everyone,I have a cousin in from Melbourne Florida and loves all my trees. He was asking what kind of tree for his area and where he could buy one? So any help would be great. Also do you think I could shake some dirt off one my trees wrap the roots in plastic,  box it up and take it with him on the plane? He leaves tomorrow afternoon. Thanks Frank

Get some priority medium size tubes from post office they are free.  Take the tree shake off some dirt from the roots. wrap the root ball in moist newspaper. put root ball into 1 gal zip lock bag and zip it up to the trunk of the tree. Using packaging tape, tape the root ball onto the box. close up the box and ship it to him.. Might cost $10.00 and will arrive in 3 days.. I just did a whole lot from the east coast to the west coast they all arrived safely. Depending on the tree size you can get up to three trees into one medium size tube. (the tube is triangular in shape they call it a tube)

As long as the root ball is fairly dry one can carry one a plant. Just be sure to trim it enough to fit into a bag for the soil and into a carry on suitcase. Do not say anything until they ask what it is. Should be no problem.

I wouldn't trust the TSA. The can arbitrarily throw your stuff out, depends on the supervisor working when you go through. 10$ for shipping sounds like a better option. 

Do what a lot of us do:  get a shoebox sized box, wrap the plant up soil and all, tape up the pot, including taping over the soil so nothing will fall out, box it up, and ship it.  I normally stabilize mine by cutting bamboo to length of the box and shoving them into the pot so the pot can't jump around, but I've seen people tape the entire pot inside.  Mail it USPS Priority, it shouldn't cost more than $12-$15.

The only FL nursery I would trust is Just Fruits and Exotics.

i can say definitely that plants in soil are perfectly acceptable for carry-on.  i personally carried on 2 figs in soil onto the plane.  Read my post about 2 elitist dwarf creeping figs.  dont bare root it.  use somevery slightly moist potting soil and You will be fine.  Any responses saying you cant will be incorrect and mis-informed.

If he's close enough to the coast that salt in the air affects plants you might want to search on cocoa beach to find the recommendations I got for my mother.  I's do it for you but I have to leave soon.   :)
