Which 3 varieties

Hey growers! Between these 5 varieties which 3 would you keep....

I-258
Panache
Black Madeira
Strawberry verte
Figo Preto

3 will be going in ground while 2 will be sold.
Thanks

I258, BM, Strawberry Verte

Panache, black madeira, and strawberry verte

I-258, figo preto, and black Madeira are similar, but I-258 is earlier.

I would say I-258, strawberry verte, and panache.

Panache is turning out to be a common variety, our local Trader Joe's as well as several Costco stores are carrying it in large quantities.  I predict it will be available to purchase easily in the future.

I wouldn't try and bother growing it since it is already quite an easy to find fig.

unless you are beyond zone 8 you may have a hard time with Panache, Madiera or Preto in ground.

Not too familiar with figo preto, but fico preto is like black Madiera but sooner.

Since you're in southern California, and I am guessing in wasp territory. I would second the recommendation of Panache, Black Madeira, and Strawberry Verte.

But Figo Preto and Black Madeira are very similar figs. There is some debate that they may be the same fig. I would feel that they are interchangeable if you are only looking for three varieties.

The pollinated Panache figs being sold at Trader Joe's right now are extremely good. Which is why I agree with this recommendation.

I'd go with the I-258,SV and Preto.

Hi,
Panache
Figo Preto
Black Madeira.
Lets suppose that you live in California; you have the right heat units and sun hours for them.

I would grow them all and keep the ones that are healthiest and end up producing best for you.

If limited in space; plant them close for now and thin out the ones you don't want once you see how they perform and how you like them.

I am no authority on these figs, but could you not interest a friend or relative, etc. to grow the other 2 and share some figs and cuttings?

Of your list I have only eaten Panache, and it was very good (the ripe caprified ones), all of your figs have great to outstanding reputations, but as Pino points out, plants can behave as individuals....all should grow well in your area, all are berry flavored AFAIK.

If you do want to get rid of the panache let me know, TJ's may sell it, but they dont sell you the tree! ;)

I-258
Panache
Black Madeira

Thank you all for your input. It’s a tough decision since they are all great figs! I might as well keep them all. Some in ground and some in pots (since I’m getting limited on space now).

Buy more land :)

Haha.. I have over 30 fruit trees in ground.

If they were mine to plant, and I had plenty of room for them 3 fig trees to grow big, I would plant Panache, Figo Preto, and Strawberry Verte. That way you have three different looking figs when served together on a plate. Also, if the birds notice one variety while still hanging on the trees, the other two fruits look different and might be under the birds radar.

Or your other option is to graft all 5 on only one tree in the ground. Then you have room for even one more type of fruit tree.

Keep em all. Plant 2 vigorous ones in ground and graft 4 to each one, plus the rootstock so you still need 5 more varietals to fill the space . In the meanwhile, put the other 3 in 5 gal pots, they won't take much space in the first couple years.

Btw, why stop at 5 ? Is there a limit on how many you can graft on an in ground tree?
