which fig can be said to have true fig taste? i mean some of the figs have other flavor like berry, melon and some says grape. which variety has true fig taste?

Been loving my Hardy Chicago for years as it has a rich fig taste not overpowered with sweetness like other types of figs.
As a note in a very hot year when there getting ripe the taste is not quite as strong i have noticed yet still very good as i can tell this type from my others blindfolded.

For me, it's black mission.  Those  were the first figs I ate as a child, and for me...that is the standard.

Calimynra, for me this is the standard, I just wish I had the wasp.

I'd say Calimyrna is one of them for me too.  It's not my favorite, but it's the taste of the dried figs I remember from my youth. Then we got Frank's Fig (an unknown Italian fig), and I tasted fresh figs, it became the new standard for me.

i keep hearing black mission from monrovia nursery.. is that the one to get? or is there some specific mission for the person who never had fresh mission fig before?

Your grandparents may have had the same fig in the 40s or before and same with other now named figs brought over to this country by so many that wanted a piece of there family brought with them.
Now we see so many new named figs some totally new like Jons Raspberry Latte and so many that are not new given a name here in this country because original name was lost or forgotten , renamed after family member  etc etc.

Bullet everyone has different taste of there favorite figs , you write is that monrovia mission the one to get ?

I have a Monrovia Mission fig bought here locally from nursery that came right off truck shipment and was grown in Monrovia's field in Visalia and tagged as such.
