Which figs should I keep?

I'm moving my figs from pots to in-ground inside my greenhouse. Conditions inside will be near 100F days in summer, low humidity, 300 day growing season, and no freezes.

Figs I'm sure I want to keep are:
Strawberry Verte
Black Madiera
Bronze Paradiso
Battagllia
RdB
Preto
LSU Brandy
St Rita
Flanders

Figs I'm thinking about ditching:
CdDN
LSU Purple
Sicilian Black
Pasquale
Santa Cruz Dark
Malta Black
Panevino Dark
VdB
Sals El Gene
Scott's Black
Beall
Igo
Kadota
Sultane

Any opinions on these choices?

Thanks to all who helped me have these choices!!!

I would keep malta black and I would maybe buy Sicilian black from you.

Hi Steve, Are your trees going to be indoors all year long?
I'm told that if they don't get any chill hours some varieties (Don't know which ones yet) might not bear any fruit at all and turn into shrubs.
Just keep us informed as this might be an interesting experiment.
Good luck.

Steve, I would definitely keep LSU Black its very good.

Col de Dame Noir,Sicilian Black,Malta Black,Violette de B,Scott's Black,are
all high quality figs,and keepers
I know you could not get ripe fruits out of Col de Dame Noir, outside in your climate but in a greenhouse ,your conditions will change and your fruits will ripe and then you will wonder why you wanted to discard this wonderful variety.

if I am you I will take "Herman2" advice, or you will find buyers for those Varieties waiting in line...including me...save me the CDDN

Exoticplants1:

I've tasted Malta Black for two yrs and haven't been impressed compared to others like RdB.

Sas:

I have two months of chilling for various other fruits. So even though the figs will be in the warmest end of the greenhouse, they'll still spend 3 months with nights in the 30s.

Peter:

If you're referring to LSU Purple I haven't been able to get enough fruit in two yrs to taste. They either need to produce or get axed.

Herman:

I appreciate your input and may crowd all those in by alternating keeper with questionable. Figuring I can dig out the losers and keep the winners after I get a better idea of quality and production. I think I'll move CdDN to the keeper list for sure. What I don't need is cold hardy types that are second tier eating.

Maybe my question should be which are the cold hardy 2nd tier eaters?

I agree with herman2> follow that advice if you must get rid of any fig, what get rid of a fig tree?

~agree~

I'm surprised that you want to ditch the cddn, vdb, malta black, and scott's black. I don't have first hand experience but have read plenty good about them.

Sooner or later I'm hoping to get cddn, malta black, and sal's el and am thinking about maybe getting lsu purple.

Steve I would have to agree with Vasile (Herman). I have some of those he mentioned and the others that I don't have had good feedback. Make sure that you give your trees a chance to mature enough before you make your decision. Sometimes young trees need to age enough to develop their flavors and ripen earlier. I know taste is personal but just don't jump too quick to cull the herd.

Hi Tonycm,
cddn is said to be a long season fig. Without a long season it may be of no use except as a shade tree.
cddn is said to be a huge tree, so if one in Zone7 is tight on space, it is perhaps the first strain to remove.
To be honest, as I like pushing the limits, at some point, I MAY get cddn or a bourjassotte noire  ... But knowing that it may be a waste of time ... So just really for fun.
I couldn't resist Panaché ( aka bourjassotte panaché ), so I have one of those yearlings growing.
I have a neighbor that has Panaché and he seems to get some ripe figs ... Nice ripe or not, that is the question .
Thus my testing on the Panaché.

Don and Tony:

Thanks for the input. I think you are right on the money.

I know Herman is a true expert and value his advice highly. I'll keep everything anyone supports until I can evaluate them better.

If they beat my keeper list figs they'll have to be great!!
