Eli...I know what works good here in Edison, N.J., but in Israel it might be a totally different story (climate, soil, weather conditions, etc)...there are so many variables that even here on the east coast of the USA it sometimes varries from state to state...I have simple tastes, so my favorites are Chicago Hardy, Celeste, and Negrone(dark figs)..and..Peter's Honey, Alma, and Bataglia(light figs)...If I were you, I would research with local growers both for heartiness and taste for your location, and then go from there...this way you know that you will have trees that thrive in your area.

Ok ff ithink you are right but soktimes local growers look at profitability rather than tastieness. They also care about shelf life which is not my prblem

try VdB. it does well in dry climate with not too much rain. i mean, it does well everywhere, but too much moisture will bleed out the flavor.

What usually works best for me is to introduce myself to folks who may have one or two trees growing in their yard, who grow them just because they enjoy figs, and not as a business venture.  These people, for the most part, are willing to talk to other 'recreational' fig growers, and many times you learn the history of the tree and other facts like taste and heartyness...and sometimes at the end of the conversation you may even be allowed to take a few cuttings for yourself....and as a bonus you have made a new friend.

thanks man-thats a cheap advice

you could try posting on craigslist under wanted . I did out here in calif. and got 3 replys, all nice people !

Depending on Israel's import restrictions, you might get in touch with Baud in France and Pons in Spain.  You might have access to figs most of us only dream about.  Tell us about your local climate and we might be able to help you more - do you even get frosts?  Do figs go dormant?  Do you have the fig wasp?  Do you get rain in the fig ripening season?

Some of the figs considered superior are Col de Dame (various colors), Bataglia Green, Maltese Falcon, Maltese Beauty, Adriatic JH, Panachee

Check out the thread, Best figs in your area .  They are all from N. America but you can get some idea of why people like certain figs and which areas might be similar to yours.

In Israel, black brazil has been producing up to 3 crops. Sbayi and khurtmani are great local cultivars in Israel.

I'm sure in Israel you can grow about any kind of fig you want to. You have the perfect climate for figs. When I was in Israel I saw wild figs growing all over the country. If I remember correctly, common figs originated somewhere between Israel and Turkey. Plant any that you want, I'm sure any fig you want will grow fine in your area.....BTW rcanter is correct, all of the varieties that he mentioned are worth looking into....

Israel dude can get the great Smyrna figs.  Zidi, Black Bursa, Kalamata, Sari Lop...Is there much of a reason to get too many of the common figs?

Thanks
Still i dont know if there are wasps around for caprification

For Common type I would suggest Ronde de Bordeaux and Col de Damas as well.  Ronde will give earlier production and Col de damas late.
