WHITE BOURJASSOTTE

A common fig, large, with a mix of sweetness and flavors predominantly berry like,(raspberry?), deep red pulp, one of the best for preparation of compotes and jellies.
It is said to come first from North Africa, then to Spain where it was extensively planted around the town of  Burjassot...from where it got the name.

even the dieseler will have to agree that these look great

I have serious fig envy Francisco ! ALL of your Portuguese figs are soo beautiful !

Thank you fellows for looking at this White Bourjassotte and for  your comments

Pete,

It was your Calvert showing that reminded me I could send a couple of pictures of a fig displaying very similar pulp colors as your fruit...otherwise I would have forgotten.
This particular variety had in remote times another synonym : LEITEIRA . This meaning 'milk maker'. In fact,  farmers would pick every single leaf of this variety (and others)  to feed their milk cows, claiming that doing so their cows would produce far more milk.

Theman7676,

Well, he may eventually agree but , will never tell;  It is a matter of strong  and deep rooted  convictions and we have to respect that !
Anyway I hope to be showing some additional blackies soon to make everybody happy.

Pattee,

That is nice of you telling me that. What can I say ?
If life was not that much complicated, in a couple of years you could be picking MOST of those figs from your own yard and pots..

My cousin Aurora (who brought me those Bourjassottes) will soon  be doing severe pruning (coming  Jan/Feb) on most of her figs and, you know, there will be tons of living wood going to feed the boiler!?

Francisco

Beautiful name - Aurora. Breaks my heart that all that wood will be used for boiler fuel !

yeah fransico you must be right

i love green figs...especially those that taste like figs.

It looks like jam already as a fresh fig, definitely looks delicious!
