Notice what a few had to say in there thinking in that thread such as Nelson and Jason  ; )

Stubborn eh. Oh well, if others join you in your disdain of the light figs, more for the rest of us, but I doubt that will happen. I would nevver shut the door on so many excellent figs.

i don't know.. dark side is becoming very tempting. only because of VdB. what if Black Madeira survives and i get to taste it? i'm scared.. lol

Bullet your maderia if grown in pot i would think do well in your climate, its been doing well here and has figs that i will show later this season.

Pete, You just need to grow a couple of those beautiful light figs pictured earlier in this thread, that'll cure you.

Jh for sure will.

Is JH Adriatic different from Adriatic?

Supposedly better taste- I love my JH.

Interesting and good to know.
Now I want one.
:)

I'm not sure that Adriatic (JH) is actually Adriatic.  I don't remember the history of the tree, but I think it came from a local nursery labeled as such.  I know there is a second tree less than .5 miles (on the same road) from the tree all of the cuttings started from.  There is also a nursery that specializes in orchids within a mile of both trees.  The owner once told me they had a fig tree onsite but I didn't ask about it's origin or what kind of figs it produces.  The current owner is not the original owner, and the nursery is for sale as of the last time I drove by.  I'm not sure how much information is available, but I will stop in the next time I am in the area.

Just read the thread about Mario's Salce fig, another fine white. Let me also add Vasilika sika and Verte, the latter is excellent according to Bass. By the way thanks Bass for the Bethlehem area fig tour, pretty amazing fig hedges!!!

Martin,

A properly integrated fig collection absolutly must have a proper fig guard. Here is my new guard in training, Note the colors.

I assume "Vini Vidi Vici" is a dark fig. Do you have pictures? ;)

(How new varietal names get started.)

ps... cute kitty, Barry. He and our relatively new 'devil boy' would probably get along great.

Gina,
Dennis was alluding to leaning toward the dark side in another thread and i mentioned in time veni vidi vici - we saw - we came - we conquered but Rome was not built in one day.

Do i have pictures you ask  -yes many pictures of my plants.

I know "vvv" is not an actual fig. I was teasing you. :)

You got me on that ! ; )

Gina,

That little kitten just showed up in my yard, crying and starving. Checked with the SPCA, local paper and online lost and found, no one reported him lost. Took him to the SPCA and got him chipped and shots, he's my new fig  guard

Our Hardy Chicago just gave up two tasty morsels this weekend, with plenty more on the new limbs.

Chicago Cold Hardy figs on our two year old tree.  Had about 6 nice treats last year, while this year every limb and leaf node is primed with afresh fig just waiting to ripen.
