Thanks Pete. Thanks for pointing me back to that thread on WG. I've heard about Dalmatie but lost mine this summer. Mine came directly from Europe and was the real Dalmatie. I was trying to see if all these were the same, Stella, Dalmatie, VS and White Greek. Since I only have 3 out of the 4, I guess all I can say is in my area, my VS and WG are not showing me that they are the same fig. When I bought my WG from Jon he said it might be the same as VS. I bought it to see if it would have the same leaf pattern and fruit but my 2 WGs are white inside and big like the one in Leon's pictures in that thread. The only difference is the interior is amberish and white in color.
Well, I'm not a fig expert. In my honest opinion...NO ONE IS! But I want to build up my knowledge base about my figs and document everything I can and record my observations inside a database. If there is one thing I learned this year from visting UCD is that figs on one tree can have different inside color (inside and out) and shape from year to year. Go figure! Jon and I saw this a few months ago and were amazed.
For years, I've been collecting a lot of fig trees from all around the the globe. Some I have are duplicates and that's alright because I think valid data from figs need to come from different sources to see if they are the real true named fig. Today I have over 500 fig trees.... 220 in 30g pots, 32 in 5gal pots, 70 in 3g pots, and 105 in 1qt foam cups and 70 in my orchard. And I got another 152 in gallon pots. I know this might sound like a lot but it's manageable with a drip irrigation system which is a must.
Early this summer I stopped posting pics and writing about my trees. Why? Because I did not have enough time to photo, convert the photo to 1m, then upload and write a comment. It was just too much. I bought an IPAD and with it you don't have to convert the picture but this forum is not IPAD friendly and I sill have email the pic to another mail server then open and upload the pictures on a Microsoft machine. It's just too much work! I will say this about one fig and if you don't have it, try to get one. It's called Barnisotte Gris. It reminds me of a long and fat Smith fig which is another one of my favorite figs. I did not list it as an outstanding performer because I want to only hint about its greatness. Only those who read this thread will know. One day, BG will be as popular as Ronde de Bordeaux! I think Dr Leon has this fig. He knows how super awesome it is! Sorry for getting off topic but I am researching a lot of figs, BG is just one of them. Toni's Brown Italian is another one!
It looks like I need to find a source for Dalmantie and continue my research. But for now, I will document my WG as NEED MORE DATA. Pete, I recommend hanging on to your tree for a few more years. We have a good climate for figs, 4 full seasons. Bump this thread up in the summer and lets post more pictures of our trees. Hopefully others will chime in and do the same. All we can do is keep talking and learning from each other and of course, eat more figs.
Cheers!
