White Greek - picture update.

i know everyone like to see the pictures.. i'll post it later today.

yesterday i had my 3rd White Greek fig. the very first one was not ripe at all. but i ate that one. the second on on my plate post was very well ripened. that one was sort of too far gone, but sweet.

the third one, one from yesterday, looked good, and had great texture.. but no taste what-so-ever.. it's been raining for last week or so on and off.. maybe the flavor has washed away. it was just right as far as the look (very ugly), and texture was concerned (not to ripe, and not too un-ripe, soft enough to let me know it's good). but amazingly enough.. there is no flavor.. it wsa like eating good fig without any.. sweetness.. or figginess.. or anything.. it's like eating air with fig texture..

but picture looks good :) i'll post it this afternoon.

bump.. added the pictures.

Hi Pete. They look good for sure, we have to mach rain here in south it is possible that lots of water can affect the taste of figs. It happen to my figs  this year to.

pete - thank you for the new pics
are these main corp figs or breba?
can you please post pic of the leaf as well

thank you, eli

Let it ripen a little more. Needs to be pretty "ugly" on the outside.

Pete:If you grow it in pot, that is Why they are tasteless.
In your climate, the pot get too hot in the sun ,and the plant does not feed fruits, properly.
Very few cultivars will make taSTY fruits in pot in NC.
You need to plant in ground if you want normal flavor from your fig trees.
In a cooler climate roots stay under 70F,When in pot,and so plant feed fruits just fine.
I have this type of fig and it has one of the best tasting fruits with strawberry jam interior and berry taste.
I also can see your fruits are not properly matured, the interior should be much darker and more beautiful. The interior on your fruits show lack of ideal growing conditions.
It should look bright like this inside:

I'll be testing couple of trees in ground next year. What do I need to check as far as soil contamination is concerned? I know I need to check for lead. It's all solid mud here...

My two trees are in pots, V Sika and White Greek.  Both fruited a few days ago.  Sika was pretty ugly but extra sweet.  My WG was good too, but its different from V Sika.  I'll plant both of mine in my orchard come Spring.

Pete, I just dig a hole, add soil conditoner and let my Craftsman till for about 5mins.  Remove the soil, add the tree, water, and add remainhing soil.

Most of us grow figs in city ,type soil that is somewhat contaminated, but Rain washes away the pollution ,in time I would not worry about any contamination, only to check if the soil is too acidic and if so apply limestone powder to bring it to neutral 7 ,and up to 7.5 alkaline and it will grow.
