I ate all 7 figs in the pictured photo # 24 from White Madeira No.1, all of them were so aromatic in my mouth; however, none of them had a strawberry flavor. They had more complex, berry-like flavor. Only one of the seven figs had a light spicy flavor which left my mouth a light sensation for about an hour.

I was simply stating that the figs I remember eating in Madeira known as bacorinho resembled the strawberry fig from almosteden not the fig you discovered.

Bacorinho I remember does not have a long neck like your unk Madeira 1

I will put my 2 Cents in:

The fig discussed here is no more no less the same fig as Madeira black and Preto,except it is a variant with white skin.
Leaves shape , fruits interior color ,exterior shape are identical.
This is the white variation,of Madeira black,(Preto)the same way,Col de Dame come in white grise,and black colors.

I have forgotten to say,that tho,it is a Madeira type fig,I am sure it is different in one way compared to Madeira Black I have.
I am sure it is not infected with the same Fig mosaic virus strain that my tree is.
My tree is 6 years old in pot,took good care of it but it is still 20 inches high because in my climate ,with the kind of health is in,it will not want to grow period,and I tried everything.
Lucky now for me someone gave me a Preto fig in trade and that one seem healthier.
So the health of the plant can make it a different plant ,because my plant will never produce a harvest like your plant but only a couple of fruits in some years,and the time of ripening because of disease is way later than August 15.

Herman2: There is no fig mosaic virus in this tree. The mother tree is very healthy. This afternoon, I found out that I have one gallon White Madeira No. 1 tree and this young tree (3 months old from cuttings) is very healthy. The cuttings root very easily. I will take its picture tomorrow. Thank you.

I have not tasted Col Dame Blanc yet because my tree is small. Also, I have not eaten a Black Madeira fig. My Black Madeira figs are not ripe yet. I will find out later. Thank you.

I stopped by Al in Bethesda, Maryland this afternoon to ask his permission to take photos of his Preto tree. I went to the back of his house and saw his Preto tree growing in the pot. While taking photos, he picked one fully ripe Preto, split in half and offered a half to me. The color of the pulp was purplish red. It was less sweet, favor and jammy taste than the White Madeira No. 1. This fig was good taste; however, it was not comparable with the superb flavor and taste of the White Madeira No. 1. The two photos below are Preto:




The black fig was split.

Tam these are all awesome finds!!!

I would say tho I'd keep in mind the maturity of tree/container vs in ground when trying to compare cultivar flavors unless that goes without say. I think the awesome figs you've been eating are off of some really nice mature in ground trees. I just mean to be fair to Preto, etc as cultivars too :). I think the mature mother tree of Preto in San Diego has to taste a lot different than any of its potted babies so far. No doubt I'm very interested in your awesome finds and I'm nearby Wash DC so even more interested. But just want to be fair all the varieties out there :)

PS I think the leaves do look like the distinct leaves of the Preto I was rooting that even when super young was lookin like those leaves. Beautiful and healthy baby White Madeira you got!! What a great find!!!

Yes, you are right. The 4 years old potted Preto's fig was not taste as good as the mature White Madeira tree in the ground. So, in order to compare I have to taste the mature Preto figs in San Diago. Thank you.
