White Texas Everbearing (pics)

This cutting was started around the end of February.  On June 26 it had it's first 2 little tiny figs starting.

They grew for about a month then kind of just stopped and didn't do anything for about a month.  A couple of weeks ago, they started swelling a little more.  They got slighly lighter colored green.  I expected them to droop more or get paler.  They started getting soft though.  I was sure they were rotten, so I went ahead and picked them this morning.

Surprise surprise!!

I was very surprised by the inside color. I was expecting an amber color.  The cuttings came from Jon.  I was so excited by how good it looked inside, I almost forgot to take pictures..  Half of one survived long enough to pose.

The skin was pretty thick and a little tough.  The inside was jam-like, but not very sweet and just a little figgy (it's a first year tree, after all).  Lots of seed crunch.  The eye was very small.  There were some tiny tiny brown ants on the figs, but I didn't see any in the eye.

Nana7b had told me how unhappy he was with his White Texas Everbearing due to dry unedible fruit. This one was definitely juicy.  It has earned another year in my yard.  If the taste gets better then it's a keeper for sure!

From another thread, I saw pics of White Texas Everbearing and they had an amber center.  Could this one be something else?  Below are the cuttings I got from Jon last winter.  Could this be a Conadria?  Perhaps I got them mixed up.  I don't think it could be any of the other 3.

 E835  LSU Tiger

 B927  Texas Blue Giant

B2421  White Texas Everbearing

B2706  Panache

B3027  Conadria  sub 2702

Edit:  The fruit looks similar to the pics posted by Maro2Bear, but the leaves don't.  Mine has bigger leaves with less defined fingers. http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/conadria-ripening-too-6504158?highlight=conadria

Is this the same White Texas Everbearing that I picked up from Jules at Danny's Fig Gig?  I can take some pictures of the leaves for comparison.

I don't think so.  I only had two from that batch and the only one I brought with me, I gave one to an elderly lady.

It's not a great picture of the leaves, but the tree in question is the second bucket from the left in this picture.  if you zoom in, you can still see those two figs on the tree a couple days before I picked them.

James,
I don't have a White Texas Everbearing, but from older posts it has been linked to Kadota, especially with the tough chewy skin.
I tasted Kadota last year, although most had amber pulp a few had strawberry tint, Its possible the pulp color may just be due to the age of the plant and culture. Attached are pictures of the Kadota and Conadria Leaves for comparison.

Thanks Pete.. Those Kadota leaves definitely looks like mine. So maybe it is the same. We'll see what it does next year.

Here are some pictures of the tree I picked up at Danny's Fig Gig.

Close to the pictures that Pete posted of the Kadota, but mine hasn't shown thumbs yet.

Yep.. very similar to mine as well, Meghan.  Thanks!

James, you do have a White Texas Everbearing.  Look at your leaf pattern....I have several WTEs.  All have the same leaf patterns.  All produce light greenish figs with a red center.  And sometimes the center is amber, but this year, its red.  It has been my expericence that on a young tree, the figs do not perform very well.

Dennis how are the cuttings of WTE doing I sent?

Thanks for the info, Dennis.  I'll hang onto it and see how it does in the future.

Celt, they struck! I now have small little trees.

James and Meghan, the one I traded to Meghan was from Peter in Magnolia so it wasn't the same as James'.  I don't have one so I can't help with identification.
