Who can be crowned craziest fig fanatic?

What's the craziest thing you've done for figs?

And your answer is?

Paid for them LOL!

Then I guess where all winners im sure we all have.       When you gotta have them u gotta.

I remember reading something about somebody jumping Rafed's fence in the middle of the night?

I was sooooo crazy about a fig, I had a member overnight RDB fruit shipped out to me- lol!!!!!! Beat that!

Can't beat it, Jennifer, but maybe come close: I live in the middle of Ohio. I learned that a little garden occasionally got fresh figs shipped in and the owner  happily called me when they arrived. I was busy and so had my mother fetch them. She immediately brought them to me and we sat down right then to dine on brazed figs with Gorgonzola and pecans.

I'm thinking the guy who screwed over bass on that cool looking Syrian fig

That was Rafed jumping Martin's fence, if I'm not mistaken.

I've risked being shot a number of times to get cuttings I've passed out for free on the board.

I started  300 fig trees this first year into figs, lol.

Happy to be a part of this crazy bunch. Someone has to keep his sanity. I haven't done anything crazy.

Well, it is not crazy but I would not do it again, ever.
I bought four fig plants from Grimo Nut Nersery before I had joined any forum. I up-potted them to 7-gallon pots using real earth from vegetable garden bed. Those pots were always used to be the last ones to come inside in the fall because of the heavy weight due to the moist soil (& my age) unless there was timely help available to bring them in. One by one I lost them (after cloning though) when got soaked in -10C~ -15C outside.

Drove all the way from Charlotte to Houston to pick up a fig tree too large to mail....17 hour trip. Rented a 5x8 u-haul trailer to carry the tree.

Brought back 15 fig trees. U-haul was full, trees range from one gallon to 15 gallon.

Came back a happy man.

I ALMOST bought a Patrick's Supergiant from Ty Ty based on one of their crazy videos.
Credit card ready and all.

In order to beat me, you have to admit to actually buying one. :)

Snaglpus and Dan are pretty crazy. Shoot if a member of this form was that close to me I would drive 17hours for it too!

The day before the 9/11 attacks, my Mother sent a box of figs from the family tree - they had a bumper crop!!!  Of course when the attacks happened all mail ceased for a week or so.  I did get the box about 12 days after she mailed it.  Yes, I opened it, yes some of them were quite nasty and moldy.  I examined each one so not to throw out any edible fig - they traveled too long not to give each one the respect it deserved before consumption. I think I had about 7 out of a box of 60, they were smaller than I remembered but they were delicious!

it's 2 in the morning and i'm drinking rum and coke and reading this forum. make that rum and diet cherry zero coke. i might get drunk, but i won't gain weight.

I drove 1840 miles from my house in La. to Jon's house in CA to swap a Cajun Gold for a Vista and while at it, we stopped to visit family and friends along the way. Linda thought it was a vacation but let her believe what she wants, it was a fig trip.
"gene"

I'm sure this is not what you meant, however... the "craziest" fig forum reader would have to be my ex-girlfriend.

I got a call from her and she was asking  me if I was okay/alive/etc.  I told her I was and asked her what prompted the call/question.  She told me she had noticed I had not posted in the forum (Gardenweb) for several weeks and was worried something might have happened to me.  THIS WAS ALMOST TWO YEARS AFTER WE BROKE UP!

If anyone ever wondered why I stopped posting in Gardenweb... now you know.  I wonder if it is safe to go back into Gardenweb since I'm sure she is now stalking me in FaceBook.  LOL.

Gene,

1840 miles?
I got you beat my friend. Try 1.5 million miles. LOL
Plenty of figs have traveled through the interstates with me.

Rafed,

I'll talk miles with you anytime..........

Cecil,

I know you got me beat.
No sense in arguing with you about that.  LOL
What do you have, 3Mil miles?

But maybe we can go down memory lane sometime?

Rafed,

No I would imagine it would be about 6 million

I have 47+ years behind the wheel....

Memories, I gots em!.....I can even talk about some here.....HEHE

Starting in 2007, I grew my trees in 25 gallon containers.  Very heavy containers when wet!  So....three fig trees, stored in an unheated storage shed would come out each Spring, get dragged up a very steeply inclined, 35 ft. driveway, out onto the sidewalk, then dragged along the walk leading to 3 front steps, lifted up the front steps onto a landing, then up another step, through the front door, dragged through my living room, kitchen, then out through sliding glass doors that lead out to my back deck.  This ritual was reversed in the Autumn.  I did this until last year.  Imminent, double-hernias were in my future.

Am I certifiable, or, what?
