wifes new favorite.. Hollier

I did not take the time to take a picture as was busy trying to get stuff done to leave town, again,,,
but had my first Hollier get ripe on my small 7 gallon tree.  Cut it in half and gave half to the wife.  Her reaction,,,,,  with an amazed look on her face:

OMG!! that was incredible,,,, do you have more???  What kind is it?  You need to be sure and save that tree, it is a keeper!!!

It was really good, looking forward to getting more from it.  A good sweet figgy/berry.
What is peoples experiences with is as far as cold hardiness in ground???

I've got not experience with this variety, so I can't comment on cold hardiness.  But I'll offer a small bit of advice.  :-)   With your wife liking it that much, then make sure you have a backup tree to keep in a pot before you plant it in ground.  In fact, I'd say make sure you have a backup tree (make a clone) regardless of whether you put it in ground or keep in pots.  Thanks for the report Greg.

Greg, glad you liked it. My wife and I gave it a high rating last year. My tree died over winter but I have a you replacement but no figs.
I am curious about your description, saying figgy/berry. We both said "tones of pineapple. Jammy and sweet."

I planted my Hollier 2 years ago from a 16oz cup directly to in ground.
It took off and grew 3 feet the first year. It got killed to ground last winter
but is over 3 foot tall with figs this year.
A very hardy variety for me. Fast grower with thick stalks.
But still no ripe figs yet.

Good advice right here. If the wife is happy, then you got it made. Wish my wife were as happy with w/ any of my fig trees. She always complains and all you hear is "don't tell me you bought another fig tree!" Lol

Now any time you get more trees, just say that they probably taste the same as Hollier.

LOL all, she thinks I am nuts as I have over 40 cultivars in pots.
the "plan" is to evaluate and weed out to get to ones I want to put in ground or are worth the effort to keep in pots.

Greg,

What party of the country are you? I have hollier growing in the ground in Texas and am planning on digging it up to bring to Denver. I am not, however, sure it is a good choice.

James,
I am in NW Arkansas, zone 6b,  Iffy for in ground but I am trying it with protection.  Had some die back (even with protection) on my in ground Gino's  BL and MB VS this past winter but both came  back well and I expect to have a decent crop. As we know last winter was a heck of a cold winter.  Perhaps someone in the Denver area, or a similar zone can give better information?
I will try Hollier and several others in ground but will have at LEAST one back up in a pot, just in case.
I am a relative newcomer to the fig world and still feeling out the different cultivars.  I will reduce from my current 40+ eventually, probably, maybe,,,,   ;o)

For some reason the locations do not show up on the member profiles on my phone. I was interested in the timing of ripening as compared to other varieties. I'm not sure if what is happening now is representative of what I can expect in the future. Sucrette (from UCD) got an earlier head start than the others and has a larger fig on it, but the other trees (even those reported to be really) are still nickle sized or smaller.

I know your feeling, I too, really enjoyed my first hollier also.. very sweet.
