As ol Yogi once said…”it ain’t over till it’s over” but, think we are thankfully on the downside with these fires. Most have either surrendered, contained or are in mop-up. Last of the biggies was burning on the military reservation at Camp Pendleton, just up the coast. The Marines, with a large arsenal of helicopters, are making short work of that one.
Could have been much much worse in property damage or homes lost! We can thank an overwhelming response of various firefighting agencies that it was not. My only fear that this may be a precursor of the summer ahead….. urgh! I hope not, even though the figs love the 100 degree temperature.
Anywho, today’s temperature a welcome 20 degrees cooler, back over 50% so were almost back to normal! Yeaaah…………
Harvey…….. sorry to hear about the loss of your friend in Fallbrook. Sad what’s happing to the those old ranchers up that way. Thanks to cheap Mexican imports and high water cost, many of those beautiful old avocado and citrus ranches and groves are being idled or cleared. Being Ag centric, the town has lost much of it’s vibrancy plus, a severe economic loss for the county too. So sad…!
Thanks everyone for all the thoughts and good wishes

We were allowed back in Hidden Hills and Live Oak late yesterday, most of use returned today am. Here is the damage: all newly sprouted cuttings are gone, heat and wind did them in since we were downwind (2blocks) from fire. three developing cuttings from early/mid winter felt the heat and leaves were folded down, intensively rehydrating now (any susggestions?) All in all lost about 10 little figs. Any figster help would be appreciated to continue the maddening quest. House, all neighborhood pets, tall plants, and fruit trees ok. Around Whitney Rd in Country Club lane area about 4-6 homes burned to the ground, dont know if any figster there.

Wow, too bad you lost your new figs but it could have been so much worse. I'm happy you didn't lose more. What do you need for replacements? I'm right up the hill from you.
