Wildlife attraction to Fig color

Which color of figs is best to deter wildlife if any
and do they like 1 variety more than others. Or
is the only protection netting, other barriers ,liquid
deterents etc.Oh yes, I dont have a cat, dog or mongoose.

Some people say green figs are less likely to be seen by birds, but my experience doesn't not support that idea. They do seem to prefer certain figs, regardless of color, but will eat any and all, esp. later in the season.

I have heard that green-skinned figs are less
attractive to birds. My guess is that (naive) birds
still have a hard time FIGuring what is ripe or not.
However, birds are smarter than we think, and
most likely, sooner or later, they get wiser.
I have no proof of all this.

Nothing scientific but I have side by side Latarulla (green) and gene sal (black) and they go after sals at least 7-1.  Had a celeste (dark) right next to Kadota (green) and again they went after the celeste 5-1.  Maybe they just like sals and celeste? These trees were/are right next to each other.

There is another explanation: The birds must be reading the forums and seeing all the hype behind all the varieties of Sal.  This is why they're eating the Sal so much.

I must be a bird brain since I love to eat figs too.

Sal

Or, there could be a conspiracy, because you are also a Sal!  ;)

Soft Sweet and Juicy Yep thats Sal

Sal

If im a bird and someone throw out bread for me and there is a worm next to it i would eat the worm.
As a human if i had the choice between a decent steak and a hot dog i eat the steak.
When it comes to figs between a dark 1 and a green one hands down i eat the dark one. ; )

Now if im starving and on the streets homeless that all goes out the window !

Maybe I'm just lucky but I don't have any problems with birds raiding my figs.
But I still have a pet squirrel. He like any color figs.

You know the more i think about it the more puzzled i get about the birds in my yard basucally robins and sparrows some finches and the occasional cardinal.
Above my shed i have 2 bird houses i mentioned last season with pictures and the fountain which sometimes shows up when i take pictures of my plants on the rocks. They are all in close quarters the fountain right between the plants and the shed which is about 15 feet away. The birds each morning go to the fountain and take there bath as i observe them when im out early drinking my coffee on the swing seat i enjoy them. Once in a while they briefly go to the fig branch and fly away but never have i had a problem with them eating my figs ( i grow dark types ) now the yellow jackets can be a problem at times not too much anymore since an ice storm destroyed it but there still around here and there as i observed last season (pesky darn things ) and they do go to the figs when they are ripe on ocassion.
Just cant figure out why the birds after 7 or 8 seasons have not bothered with my figs.
Oh and 1 squirell comes back each year to tease my bigger dog Butch its a site to see them going back and forth.

Problem I had last season was with rats & Squirls, they were very smart and let the figs get ripe then go there and steal them one by one. I know a few people here in Toronto who have issues with birds regularly 2 of them swear the only figs the birds dont touch is the green figs like Verte & Desert King.

Starlings wrecked havoc in the two green figs in our backyard, and wasps finished of the damaged fruit. One of the reasons I'm so interested in potted figs - they're small enough to net! The chickadees were more interested in stealing blueberries and they're so cute doing it, I don't mind :)
