Will the real Scotts yellow please stand up?

This first picture is from a certain Cajun fig blogger.

This one was bought on Ebay as Scott's yellow by a member here.

Which one is Scott's yellow or are neither of them?  Or are both of them......but they sure don't look the same to me.   Thoughts and opinions welcome.

When I was corresponding with the Professor at LSU in charge of the orchard and asked him to verify different fig types i had heard about one was LSU Scott's Yellow and it was one he dropped from the list of actual LSU figs, so not sure what it is but it doesn't officially come from LSU. He did claim the LSU Scott's Black...

The key word here is "officially".  Technicially, LSU Scott's Black, while being a LSU fig, has not been "officially" released by LSU but will soon be in the future.  Don't know, maybe LSU Scott's Yellow is just urban legend.

This was the information that was sent to me.

LSU Scott's Black
 – this is L-55-2-66 – released in 2013
Hollier - a LSU fig that was un officially released
LSU Gold – released in 1996
LSU Purple- released in 1991
O'Rourke–released in 2009
Champagne - released in 2009
Tiger - released in 2009

He also mentioned LSU Red as one that might have been taken from the old orchard that has been gone for years but couldn't give me more info than that.

The LSU figs are great...really wish the some of the others were easier to get.

*that some*

Gloria - were you talking to Dr. Charley J. at LSU?

Willis, that second picture looks exactly like my LSU Hollier that I got from Dalton and JR last year! I mean exactly!!!!! Leaf pattern and fruit!

Yes Danny I was..

Dennis,

I have Hollier in moss now so will be sure to compare them when the plant gets some age on it.

I have refrigerated Hollier cuttings taken from the LSU tree at Burden Field in Baton Rouge. I also last Saturday purchased a Hollier from JF&E. I'll look at my leaves if there are any on there after this cold weather. I don't recall what they looked like. So many trees are sold labeled wrongly and not on purpose.

well Charles, the Hollier I saw at LSU and the Hollier fig I sampled at JR,were definitely 2 different figs ????

Hi Brian,

It will be interesting to see what I get. IMHO the Hollier I tasted at LSU was so impressive I could not resist buying it in case the cuttings do not take. It may be real or not but I had to roll the dice.

I wish they (LSU) had all their plants for sale at the meet. I would have went home broke! At least I did get the O'Rourke Dr. Johnson had there. That was sweet.

Hey Brian, my Hollier you gave me when I came to your house is doing well. Let me know if you are making it to Houma soon. I still have the Dr. Gowaty tree set aside for you. I may have some other goodies you might be interested in!

Charles
