Will this fig be a CROISIC ?

It behaves as any Caprifig....showing the typical 3 seasonal crops
By now appears to be just like the Croisic is described.. YELLOW, SOFT SKINNED and LARGE, 5 LOBE LEAVES.. but these are full of wasps and displaying plenty of male flowers.
Could it be a Croisic ?....a mutation ?

Have you tasted it? If the wasps like it, that is what matters, right? Would the wasps live in a sterile caprifig?

Not A Croisic ,persistent edible caprifig, but,
a Wild non edible male caprifig, full of male staminate flowers, with pollen, and of course the House where the wasps were born, and from where they will fly,out and pollinate Smyrna type ,Female fig plants, and sometime common fig female plants.

i wouldnt eat it  without a hospital nearbye :)

Thank you for commenting

sirlampsalot,

Well, the wasps as well as their previous larva do not eat the fig as we understand it.
Their food from egg stage through larvae, and then wasp, both male and female are minute quantities of
endosperm (food tissue) covering the internal walls of the ovule (galls) inside which they develop
This page is good reading to understand the process.

To your question on taste, I must say Yes!..not the insect of course, but small bits of the flesh just under the skin.
Figgy flavor and very sweet!

Herman

I agree that it could not be a Croisic. But this is first time I find a fig full of wasps and good pollen plus the fact , as said above, its flesh is very sweet.
Found this tree in a ravine in between stones all indicating to be generated by a seedling.
Usually the caprifigs i use for the Smyrnas show unmistakable signs of what they are.
See following pictures...Not edible at all !

Elin,

Yes I did taste just a bit if the white flesh and it was sweet!
Have found any so far ?? You shall need them.
