Willow water for rooting your cuttings.

She makes the whole thing look so easy and clear with here adorable way.

That's a nice video. If it works or not has yet to be seen. I understand willow contains aspirin compounds, and some people add aspirin to cut flower water to lengthen the flower life. Maybe there is some science behind it. Entertaining video!

i don't think my neighbors will appreciated it if i go and cut some their willow branches off.. i heard chewing on willow bark will make your gum bleed.

Gums bleeding would be consistent with an aspirin-like compound.

I think I have read that boiled willow branch tea has historiclaly been used as a potent root stimulator.

Willows produce large amounts of salicylic acid (an aspirin precursor), a plant hormone that elicits the rooting response. It's not nearly as powerful as off the shelf rooting hormones, but before rooting powder existed it was used.

I sell tons of willow cuttings for rooting. Very popular method.

I have heard before that willow-twig-soaked-water does enhance rooting to many other plant twigs.
I actually never tried it, so I cannot comment on it directly.
(my neighbor used to have one, but it was toppled/killed some years ago)
Facts I know; headache-medicine-aspirin is derived from the willow-tree.

Next question ... can aspirin tablets do the same twig rooting function
(besides also preventing some human stroke/heart attacks)?  ...

I also heard that aspirin can temporarily improve some older
males suffering from a normal 'blood-flow' to having better sex!?!

@Brian, who buys those cuttings , are they nurseries or general public?

@George, the Aspirin (in humans) is used to loosen the blood thus making circulation easier through narrowed blood vessels. Where ED drugs use Nitrates to dilate vessel walls to make them wider , so blood can go through them easily. Two different processes in, one for the blood and the other for the vessels.

So, what are you saying Aaron? Pop an asprin with your viagra? LMAO sorry, I couldn't help myself!

Aaron I'm really not sure, i sell them on eBay. I know there is a real history behind willow trees. Used medically for so long for pain relief.

@javajunkei, LOL
I have never said that, I don't even know what the adverse reaction to that combination might be...I was just trying to explain George about different meds and what their target effect is. Although in some cases you might be right, but you had to have Pulmonary Hypertension...Sometimes the big V is used to prevent Pulmonary Hypertension and don't expect me to explain what that all means. call your doctor, LOL

Does anyone know a source for this kind of willow for cuttings?  I'd like to get a few sticks to root/ use for growth hormones...etc.

@Grasa, I'm sure "brianm" could help you with that issue :)

This is actually a really cool topic and... so true.

I was that dorky 10 year old Junior Park Ranger growing up, and we used to use willow water all the time to propagate cuttings.  I totally forgot about this!  I actually have a Plumeria cutting that is sending up leaves, but refusing to root.. Tomorrow I am going to go get some willow! Its not only the "aspirin like substance" found in willow but also the indolebutyric acid.
