wind damage!!!!

Oh this cold wind down here is making all the beautiful new leaves on my fig trees curl and wilt :(  They are just looking bad.  Is this reaction common of wind or cold damage? We are having a late frost and all my trees already put alot of leaves on.  Just droopy curly and soggy looking now...

Kim,
here is your comment from 4/2/09
Today we are having a cold spell here in Dallas, 50 degrees with hard wind 30's tonight.  We had a big rain last night.  My fig trees dont look good today? The 16 in ground look splotchy?? dark green with light green discoloration. And the three in the pots are curly, pale and droopy! They seem plenty wet.

Then you replied to Cecil in same thread
Cecil,

You have me laughing b/c Im right there drowning my little figs too, hahahaha. From what you just said I am waaaaaay overdoing it on watering and they are gurgling for help.  Have youll had big rain in East Texas?  We are having the loud booming thunderstorms here in Dallas.  And on top of the rain I have watered them everyday, lol. Thank you Cecil!

Here's is what im thinking Kim

So along with to much water, cold temps combined with windy conditions the new leaves are suffering i'm thinking also from the above combination .

Hope this helps.

I just went down today to the basement to check on the fig plants in the cold storage. The temperature was decently cold around 43F but I saw the top buds loosening up green and some were a bit opened. I knew they had enough rest since the first week of November and want to be out after a good winter rest. However I had to tell them they have to wait a bit longer because they would not like what I saw outside; windy with snow and sometimes rain and other times wet snow and gusts of wind and this all coming from Near Chicago,Illinois Zone 5. I told them that I did this mistake last year of taking out around this time and they got cold and were sick for a couple of weeks with frozen leaves and were behind in progress by a couple of weeks or more. I know in a week times we may reach on a compromise to bring them out at least to the garage which does not have windows like some other garages. Anyway it is not too far when they will see the morning light outside. I don't want to hurry up but still have to watch that they don't consume all their stored energy in the dark.
Better learn from others experience than to repeat it (except the good experiences).

Smart move waiting :) This time of year is like an eternity....  I put clear plastic bags on them today and they are doing much better.  Later in the season all of this waiting will just be a memory huh! I am following everyones directions and have not watered again since the overwatering post :) Its hard to resist.. love to love them too much..

Oh Ottawan just a little chilly breeze we sent you from chicago a little south of chicago  ; )
Well its warmer than the one that Canada sent time after time like an eternity wich started in December and then came again in January,eh 10 below 15 below 18 below 21 below and few days not past 0 degress for highs. So a little breeze for you not to bad.  ; )
but mine are still sleeping to but it will hit about 55 for a few hours of sun and a few mintues of excersise for me when i move them.

Kim when i get the urge to water i get the camera and take some pictures instead!
Don't forget to take plastic bags off them when need be .
