Winter fading hopefully.

Late November 2012, my potted fig trees were watered one last time, stacked on top of each other and placed in the 6'x8' welhouse with a heater set at just above freezing.  The remainder trees with no safe place to go were placed beside the well house outside with leaves and autumn grass clippings strewn on top for insulation.  The winter here was mild and now all buds are beginning to swell and the wellhouse trees have some good size figs on them.  The shuffle now begins to try and let the young trees harden off under the protection of our back porch to get more light and not burn the leaves.  If temps approach mid 30'sF.  they go back in the well house and some in our detached carport.  The ones under mulch will have protection removed about April 20th.  It is a very busy time of year and labor intensive to try and keep our babies warm and hope for a fruitful summer. See pics.

CH,

Yes, same here in Maryland. Day time temperatures are finally getting mid 50's to low 60's (F), but night time temps continue to dip to freezing or a wee bit lower. Extended forecast shows weeks of 70's, so i feel it necessary to get leafed out new trees out for sun and acclimitization BEFORE the temps rise too quickly.

Good luck this summer. Thanks for the info. I will be doing the same in the fall. Winter come late and summer comes early here. 85 here yesterday. Hotter very soon.
Have a big smile to all.
