Winter fig cuttings progress and Vasilika Sika

I did not order from UCD this year but have some cuttings from Ebay that I potted up during a snow storm.  The Vasilika Sika is making good progress and seems to be a vigorous grower.

Great Cutting!! Thanks for the Info!! Love your Videos on You tube!....Is the Agway Bark,  Nuggets or Mulch ?

Thanks! : )

Hey Tom, another great video, thanks for posting, I was watching some of your other videos of figs this morning on youtube

Wow what a snowstorm! I'm not jealous about it.

Great new varieties (and also a german one :-) ), really love your videos.

It's called Agway mulch and it's a pretty good uniform size of about a 1/2 inch.  I use to sift HD pine nuggets to get this size material.

Another video! Nice! I just went through your fig play list again. I think these videos are a good reason why I'm having so much success rooting cuttings in my first year.

I enjoy watching your videos and I am trying to emulate your rooting methods.
One problem I run into maybe because my soil mix is not coarse enough is watering after planting.  It seems they stay wet with water droplets in the inside of the cup that won't go away.
You mentioned that you give them a good watering after planting how do you avoid overwatering problems at this stage?
Thanks

Tom
I have really been enjoying your videos starting last summer with air-layering.
You inspired me on air-layering and I hit 100% success.
Regarding potting up rooted cuttings, I have the same question Pino just asked;

I do also mix perlite with pine bark I sift to eliminate anything smaller than 1/16" and larger than 1/4" in size.
I decided to water ahead of time and keep mix in sealed bag.
Cup (24 oz) of dry mix weighs 95 grams , and wetted mix weighs between 180-190 grams.
There is about 37%-41% moisture content. Roots develop very nice  just like in case of your first lone cutting you had in bin.
Humidity in the bin is from 60% to 80%.
Bottom heat is applied (mat) to hold temperature at 21-24 degrees C.
Aquarium light  2x25W and  one 25W Plant tube light are above the bin lid.
Tube  light is cold and is on 24 hrs, aquarium light is 30 min on 60 min off because it heats up the inside of the bin too much!

Mix at the bottom of the cups and at the top of the cups appears dry (brown), middle layer appears wetter.

I noticed youngest leaves that are couple days old are falling off looking dry.
It is result of stress.
Is it because of dryness or wetness?

Afraid causing root or bark rot, I do not water, should I water and how?
I have lost so many cuttings at this stage due to overwatering.
How to stop leaf drop?

Couldn't find organic pine bark nuggets for my cuttings mix. Picked up orchid bark instead. Is that okay or is it a bad idea?

Was thinking of oing with 1/3 potting mix, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 orchid bark nuggets. In the past I've just done 50/50 potting mix and perlite.

I've found that new leaves area susceptible to rot if left in a humidity chamber. I move my cuttings out of the chamber as soon as the leaves are 1/2 inch long

Using bark in growing media may be an issue. Uncomposted wood takes nitrogen away. it's not good to have it in a grow mix unless you add nitrogen back into the mix.

I forget to add that it's been my experience that's it's hard to over water using 100% perlite as a growth media
