Winter in San Diego

Here is Lyndhurst White as of yesterday.

On a similar note, I was taking cuttings today, on the stuff that looked dormant, and every cut brought a spray of latex sap. They are so juicy this season, even when dormant, because of the warm weather this month.

Jon
I will call this a non-Summer rather than winter.

Also, it may be giving you a very short window for taking cuttings; unlike NE where some can have approx 4 months window for cuttings if plants are physically accessible.

Ottawan,

It has been very difficult this season. Some things are not yet dormant, some are already leafing out, some are leafless, but still green (not fully hardened), and others, which appearing dormant, and hardened, are full of sap, ready to burst forth. Each has had cuttings taken, so far, trying to balance giving it all the time we can to let it harden off, but taking them before they break dormancy. It has been a tree by tree decision for 4 weeks now, and still many of the cuttings have not been taken in the hopes they will harden more rather than breaking dormancy. I don't want to trade weather with any other fig grower, but it has been uniquely difficult this season.

We are having a very mild winter due to El Nino. So much so yesterday on TV they were showing how little snow we have on one of the hills in Vancouver earmarked for the Olympic event next month. They have to use bales of hay ferried in by helicopter & pile reserved snow moved from higher elevation on top of the hay to make the runs.

I agree with you Paully even here in Toronto its been a rather warm winter 3 weeks straight we had temps in the mid to high 40s and lots of sun shine. My brown turkey broke dormancy early january and has grown 2ft already had to pinch the tip since its already reached 5ft also my Bronze Paradiso is starting to break bud wonder how thats going to affect the plant since feb. is usually our coldest month and I dont have room for a bushy plant like that in my office right now.
