Wood

Woodville it all depends on who you ask. I would say the number 1 issues anybody has with cuttings myself included is moisture control. To damp and they rot before rooting. There's alot of good post about propagation a few years ago a search would uncover. Alot of other members at that time were all trying new methods, and setting up there own thread with their experience. Alot of information. Haven't seen to many of the old dogs on though.

Thanks, I was more wondering if I should refrigerate the cuttings I bought from you, or should I try to root them right away under some grow lights? I am still going to search for those posts. Thanks

Sadly I have found that many methods that others say are their goto for that single cutting to ensure success don't work from me. I have a small collection of 23 trees that are all in ground. Baggie method has never worked for me, but has been a fail safe for alot of other's. I have seen a member do hundreds of single node cutting with great results. I myself have tried this a few times and I get about 20% sadly.

My preferred method is score cutting and rooting right in a pot with a small% organic matter and mainly perlite vermiculite base. Now I will treat the score cuttings with various rooting hormones, depending on what I have. Never use powder root agent. That's just me. I will try and pull some stuff up.

Moral of the story , you gotta find what works for you. Understand the mechanics of what your trying to accomplish and create the ideal environment. Under heat works. The top of the fridge is warm enough to get in that optimal rooting temp thus speeding the process. But moisture control is number 1, trying to hard or neglect being number2

Thanks for your information, much appreciated.

Dave,
I received your cuttings today, thank you.

I am having a hard time reading your handwriting on 2 of the plastic bags, you only put one letter on them.  This is what is clear; MVSB, DK, RDB, VB  then one appears to be the letter N, I assume nero 600 m?, the last I can't tell what it is almost looks like a v or a checkmark?  Could this be a c?

I can't upload a photo I took of the marking since it says storage is full.  I would have to guess the last could be the celeste?  If so is this celeste or improved Celeste.   Thanks

Hey Rayvino,

I have the same cuttings coming, what method are you going to use for propagation?

Since there are six varieties, I guess N for Nero 600 M and C for Celeste. Does that make sense?

Hoping to get the cuttings today or tomorrow.

It is really pretty easy, Plant with the "smile" in the right direction.

Check out the pic in post #19.

Yeah it's a c I said I was only doing 10 but exceeded that as I always do. Blacksmithing for this benefit the 13th has my busy. But the pieces I am making are beautiful and using many traditional methods. Look at that got side tracked. I kind of got sloppy with all the bags.sorry.

Got mine too.  Thanks.
A few of them are begging to be started, they've got the little bumps on them.  Looks like I'm going to have a house full of plants this year too ;-)

Look at the leaf nodes. Little circle above big. That's how I tell. :)

I got mine today also, thanks! I need to put them in the fridge for a couple of weeks, do you think that will be ok?

Got mine today too.

Dom,
I see you have some other posts about starting cuttings, listen to them not me.

This is my first time but I found some youtube videos by the newenglandgardening

   that look pretty good.

I have been growing fig trees for years, usually if a friend had a good tree, we would chop off some new ground shoots, with some roots & dirt, put it in a pot, water and that was it.  Most of the time it took.

Good luck, post how your progress progresses.
Ray

Cuttings received today. Thanks.

that's 12 cuttings that's about the most I can fit into one box. these cuttings will all be new wood from this years growth. trees are not dormant yet but starting here soon.

What does RdB stand for?

I guess something went wrong that I received two boxes, 24 cuttings in total. I sent PM to Dave but he seems hasn't been online since then.

Lewi, I am more than happy to send the cuttings to you but one fact is I already brought all the cuttings back to Canada. Canadian custom seems to be okay with bringing figs cuttings into Canada. I had done that a couple of times. I am thinking to cross border to send them in US but don't know if US custom will let me pass. In my impression, US seems to have stricter policy importing cuttings.

Any suggestion?

LEWI   HOPE THINGS WORK OUT  I HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED MINE   SORRY  ROGER

Please do NOT by any means attempt to bypass Homeland Security -Customs, they have no sense of humor, and fig cuttings are illegal to import without a permit.

I have sent 2 pm's to Garden Wisperer for tracking info...so far no reply. I do not know for sure where my cuttings are, but IF they are on crown land I would hope GW would make it right.

I must add, I do not check my post box everyday...so anything is possible right now.

I haven't received my cuttings, either. I've sent two PMs as well requesting tracking info as well without reply. I wish I could figure out what is happening with the cuttings. I don't mind if there was a mistake or something, but I'd like some sort of response. I hope I get one soon.
