Dave
I am not sure if you will think it is a tough bargain for trade.
I quit smoking in 1985 and I do have a rooted plant of Monstreuse and a 6months old cutting of LSU Gold. I ma willing to to send (bare-rooted) just for the promise of trying your best to 'Quit Smoking".. I mean just trying!

I hope it is not impolite; my apology if it is.

ottawan - you are a true gentleman!

glad to see you are in good form
(wish we had a Like option similar to FB  )

Is that the same Montreuse that UCDavis has? I have never seen that last part of the name De Lipari used before.

tmc,

I "THINK" the Monstreuse De Lipari started off with the ebay seller from Northern part of Michigan. Not 100% sure though.

No, not that guy, but the other guy.

Impolite not at all I appreciate the jester  it's something I have been thinking of doing, hopefully  this year will be my year! and I thank you again for caring enough to post that.

actually that is where I first saw this fig  and after reading about the guy on here I wrote to him a couple of times asking him if I would actually be getting the variety that he is selling with no reply.  but I did do a google search on that name and it does come up  "Monstreuse De Lipari"

Thanks everybody for trading I think I am good now on the Monstreuse   and  LSU Gold cuttings

Thanks Dave

Dave,

When in doubt, come here and ask the questions. We will try to help you the best we can.

But I can honestly tell you even the best of the best in this trade will/might tell you that this fig does not exist. Montreuse yes! But NOT the Montreuse De Lapari. At least I haven't.

I used to smoke on avg. 2pks of Cowboy Killers red in box per day.
Seven and half years later I am still smoke free.

Get yourself large supply of bubble gum and stay away from booze for a month or two.

You can do it.

Thanks Rafed , talking about cowboy killers I was watching a show about John Wayne  and he said he used to smoke 6 packs a day, hard to believe somebody could smoke that much

Also, DE LAPARI is listed as a separate variety in Fig4fun varieties so I thought Dave might be looking for three varieties.

Dave,

Heard once that John Wayne had small feet. His boots were special designed by Tony Lama. His boots were big to match his size. That's why he walked the way he did.
You ever see him run? That's right, never.

That's one for the Kipper.

Anyway, I briefly had the Monstreuse. I had promised it to a friend and it's been long gone. I could have helped you. My LSU Gold is still very small.

Something will pop up sooner or later.

Akram,

I edited my #5 entry. I made it a bit more clearer as to what I was saying.
I added the word "Monstreuse".

Thanks for the heads up.

FYI...

From Condit's Fig Varieties: A Monograph:

"Monstrueuse (syn. Grosse Monstrueuse de Lipari). Described by Barron (1868c, 1870, 1891), Hogg (1871; with figure), and Eisen (1888, 1901). Illustrated by Barron (1870) from fruits produced at Chiswick; he reported it as Grosse Monstrueuse de Lipari, a French variety, comparatively unknown in England. P.I. No. 18,846 of the Chiswick collection has fruited in several test orchards under the name of Monstrueuse. Doubt has existed as to the identity of this variety, which, according to Barron, has a lightbrown or chestnut-colored skin in England, while California specimens are green in color. This discrepancy can be explained by the fact that Barron’s account is of the brebas only, which in California have a general green color but are commonly flushed with violet from the underlying colored meat. P.I. No. 18,878, labeled Dr. Hogg’s Clare, is the same as Monstrueuse. In England it is essentially a “first-bearing” kind, and rarely yields a second crop."

There is more, but that may help with the naming confusion.
