WOW after all this time I have figs!!!

This is what I picked this AM. I will pick this many at least 3 or 4 times a day now. From 100 gram Lemon figs to little 20 gram Vistas. I have finally created an orchard that is giving me incredible Smith's and super berry Ronde de Bordeaux's. I have only hadDSC_0069.jpg  37 varieties ripen so far but there are green figs everywhere.
It has taken years to get here but I am very happy that I stuck it out as the rewards are amazing.

Congratulations!  You're living the dream!

Congratulations Michael, that is really great. I am happy that you are getting to enjoy the figs of your labor!

Bob,
I had to go out and buy some lemons to make my pork tenderloin preserves tonight. Last year I had to save figs. This year I just have tons of them. I hope everyone on this forum gets to have this much fun as it is wonderful !!!!

Looks great...I hope to get to that point myself someday. Enjoy.

Gary,
thx I've been working at this since '07. Last year I had 70 varieties of figs ripen. This year . . . ???
I hope I can figure out a new preserve recipe as my last one was too runny and too sugary.
BTW I think Ronde de Bordeaux is just an all round excellent fig.

That is really impressive!
How many trees do you have? Are they all in pots?

That's awesome, Michael!  I wish you continuous success.  It's the simple things in life.

Wow, only 37 varieties? Some are just so fortunate... Nice haul, Mike. It's a farmer's market in your own backyard!

Michael,
"I will pick this many at least 3 or 4 times a day now."
Noobies like me are lucky to get a plate like that in one season!
That's definitely something to strive for!  You're setting the bar pretty high for us ;-)
Jim

Awesome!! That gives me hope!

CONGRATS!

All your hard work paid off. I bet you feel like a kid in a candy store.

Nice haul, Michael.  I was in Texas two weeks ago and saw an abundance of fruit on the trees, but none were ripe.  My greatnieces will enjoy all the spoils.  I do not think I will get back to them before they are all gone.  I will get about 10 figs off the trees I started growing in NJ. :D

Is 20g the smallest Vista or the average weight?  I thought it was supposed to be a larger fig.

Congratulations, Michael, you deserve the rewards of your hard work!

Congratulations. Its obvious that you put a lot of love and hard work into it and now you will reap the benefits for years to come. Last year was my first year to get a fig off my tree. I think i had a total of nine. LOL. You have more on your plate than I have enjoyed in a lifetime and they are beautiful!!!. Enjoy.

Harvey,
You are always just a damn nice guy. thx. I was taking photos of a yellow crab spider guarding one of my figs when I realized it was time to give back.

Anyway I realized I was actually really lucky as so many of my trees are just bursting with figs.

I decided to be thankful and today I pledged 25 trees to local folks who need them. 4 for example to the hospice center where my uncle died after living in my plant room and suffering from cancer for months. I still occasionally take my dog up there as everyone loves him and they always ask me to bring him back.
10 to local child care centers, etc. I still have to ID these.
Will they get really good stuff? Yep. I have an extra 6 Lebanese Reds and stuff like Longue D"Aout and Marseilles Monticello. No "junk" figs (as if there was such a thing).
In 2012 I gave away 75 trees but have gotten slack about it recently.

Anyway,
thx.

Michael,hands down....!!!!!!

You have a great heart, Michael.  That will all come back as good karma.  Here's to another day of joy for you.

Way to go Michael, Being one of the friendliest guys on here and apparently a hard worker and generous man too.  YOU DESERVE to reap some rewards.  You are giving the rest of us lot's of hope.  So if it taks 7 yrs. to get to this point I should be there in another 5.

blessings

Hey Michael nice work, I am happy for you. I get to pick a handful a day, so I am a long way from your triumphant moment, sometimes you just wish you could spin forward the hands of time, but only for figs!

That is awesome looking plate of figs and to think that many more several times a day. I can agree that it is awesome even if mine do not yet match those numbers. It
is still fun.

Your generosity is also awesome.

Congrats.....time to reap your rewards...enjoy

Very nice Mike, that's a great thing to do.

As someone fairly new to all of this...I appreciate the inspiration.... it'll help keep me motivated in our Florida downpours...

Cheers!

James

Nice! Gotta love the payoff. Sounds like you really deserve it, good job with spreading the fig love.

I'll get around 50-60 figs this year, which is great because last year I got about one third of that. That's the nice thing about a young fig collection, the fig future just keeps getting better!  I'm never going to hit your numbers though, are any of your producers in the ground or are they all in pots?
