Tired, cranky, having hormonal day, blah blah blah.....well, I didn't expect it to be so bad that I would root a cutting upside down and not notice until it was screaming it at me. that's one for the archive! I would consider widening that hole, however, or it'll girdle pretty quickly.

I have a cutting which has decided to branch out at the bottom node. Tami, That is TOO, TOO FUNNY. It is amazing that it found its way out the side rather than heading upward toward the surface. James, do you clip those shoots/branches to encourage activity toward the top, or do you just let them go? I've got some cuttings doing that (and also putting out shoots at multiple nodes along the cutting), but I don't have the guts to clip them off. I can pop a fig embryo off no problem, but whenever I consider cutting an actual shoot/branch, I always wonder if THAT was going to be the only one... LMAO Tami .... You know penicillin was discovered by accident and it is now one of the most commonly used antibiotics we have. You may have just created a new way to grow figs.... Those are the nice deli containers made from thick plastic. I use the cheaper ones that are thinner and more clear. They rip nicely and make getting the plant out easy. I think you could easily cut down the side and the bottom with kitchen shears to get that plant out when you are ready.

I am taking a bow with a flair, thank you all for your comments. I am glad to provide the entertainment for the day! LOL Surgery is done and fig is resting in it's 3 gallon bag but I will probably lose the greenery. It was already girdled and kind of floppy when removed. Shouldn't be a big deal with all those roots.
