year old cuttings rooted

Jules sent me some Bryant Dark and Joe Dark cuttings a couple months back (I think she got them from Danny, but not sure).  She said they were already year old cuttings that's been in storage and didn't know if they would still be good.  So I dipped some in dip-n-grow and put them in sp moss in a box a couple weeks ago...

The top 4 are Joe Dark, they are a little further behind.  The rest are Bryant Dark.  The second picture is the 4th one from the bottom of the first pic that only has about 6 visible roots on the left side.  Underneath the sp moss was all those other roots!

And this is it in a SIP (design courtesy of FMD).  Skipping the humidity bin and seeing how it does like this.

Roots look real happy.
Good luck with them.

Nice, not from me.

Good for you!   That's amazing. How were they stored all that time? refrigerated?

Danny, I guess i was mistaken.

Sonni, they were in zip locks with damp sp moss. I assume were in the fridge. I kept them in fridge for the past two months.

Nice James ! They were most likely originally from "Ascpete"- Pete.

You know, you maybe right, Pattee.. Just can't remember for sure. Jules just gave me her extras.

Very good roots, thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam

Those sound like some varieties that Steve has.  They sure have some nice healthy roots!

Yes, from Pete.  I'm glad they are doing so well.  Yes, Sonni, they were refrigerated all that time.  My Joe Light is beautiful and about a foot tall with lots of green leaves (2 months since rooting).  I've had trouble with the Joe Dark and Bryant Dark but I still have hope that they will take off.  If not, I guess I'll get more cuttings later on from you, James....lol.

James
Those cuttings look awesome. I am curious, what do you use to mark your cuttings? I see white writing on the stem. What is the best marking device.
Thanks and good luck with the cuttings
Coop

They were already marked when i got them.

Coop, it's probably a paint pen.  That's what I use when I can.

James,
Congratulation and good luck.
They were stored in a refrigerator since October 2012, in 1 gallon zip lock bags with a small amount of dry long fiber sphagnum moss.

Coop,
I usually mark my cuttings with Elmer's Painters, opaque paint markers. They are available at any crafts suppliers.

Dallas,

Hope they work out well for you....had awesome roots using dip n gro but then they never bud out and just croak.

Thanks, Pete. I have more to store.

WC. I used dip and grow last year on everything and didn't have any issues unless i over watered. This year, instead of small cups in a humidity bin, I'm trying swp's.

Update on these fellows..   As stated in the OP, Byrant Dark's seemed to root faster and stronger than the Joe Dark's.

However, all 4 of the Joe Dark's have leafed out beautifully. One of them may need to be up-potted soon.

None of the 7 Bryant Dark's have pushed any leafs at all. One looks like it might have a tiny dot of a bud, but has been like that for a few days. One of them that had a green terminal bud has turned brown.  Roots still look good on the ones I can see, just no budding.  I'm about to put them all on notice with a one month performance deadline.

My Joe Dark is the same way; lots of roots, no leaves.  The Joe Light I have did very well and is outside with all the others now.

2 of the Bryan Dark finally starting pushing out a leaf.  The one that I thought died, because the terminal bud turned brown, I pinched the bud and it was soft, then the brown parts fell off and it was bright green underneath.  So now I have hope that the others will eventually wake up.

At some time FMD made mention of using rooting enhancers sparingly. Something about them over whelming the plant's chemistry to the point it only wanted to push roots and to the detriment of top growth. I have some cuttings to root and I will only lightly swipe a side of the cutting with Clonex.

James...Beautiful Rooting!! Did you air out the cuttings while they were rooting? Also, did you cover the cuttings with moist Sphagnum moss.

Hmmmm...I've got some UNKs in the fridge that are a year old.  I was going to toss them in the middle of summer, then I thought maybe I'd bury them under some leaves and let nature take its course.  But I never got around to either.  Maybe I'll give rooting another chance.  I forget why I gave up on them...I recall seeing more mold than I was comfortable with...
Jim

Try fertilizing them.  Houseplant strength miracle grow.

I agree with Bob C...  Give 'em some Nitrogen!
