Yields

Hello all,

I am a first season grower in zone 6a/b. I have on order 2 Negronne (from Rolling R), 1 Paradiso and San Pietro (both large size from JM), 1 Peter"s Honey (form Peaceful V). I have in ground (1 gallons from Lowes planted in the fall) 2 Chicago Hearty.

My question is what may I expect each planting to yield each season? I do expect to have these all planted in ground here in Cincinnati.

Thanks!

i grow everything in container and last yr, i got about 80 from my most productive tree. if you have them inground, i'm sure as the tree matures, you will be getting whole lot more. i think there was a post about a tree in TX that a member was getting hundrds every day.

I have a potted hardy Chicago I bought last year, I ended up with probably 10-15 figs at the end of the first year. I bet I would have had more like 20-30 but it stayed out in a bad storm and lost a branch and several developing figs on surviving branches when it tipped over

I plan to espalier most of these on a south facing fence line. Thinking of using the Japanese approach that I've read about. It would provide several things I think, ease of harvest, ease of winterizing the trees and as a bonus it would create a living fence.

How incremental are yields year over year as the plants mature? I know this would be pretty subjective due to climate zones, pruning, exposure etc. but I am just trying to get a sense of how long (and how many plantings will I need) till my family can enjoy a plate of figs every morning! :-)

I have a  6yr. old Ischia Green fig tree... the first year the yield was 0 figs, same thing the second year, third year about 80 figs, 4th - 5th - & - 6th yr. between 250 to 350 figs each year.  We have a relatively short growing season( April 1st to Oct. 1st ), so I'm sure in a warmer zone the yield would be even higher.
