You guys ROCK!(Ladies included)!

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I've been lurking for several months in both forums and have learned so much from you all. Seems like I've even figured out your personalities :~)! Anyway, I live in Southeast Texas,  Zone 9, and have lots of figs started. I have Celeste from my Inlaws house,What I think is a Strawberry Fig from my parents(I'll address this one later with pictures), and quite a few others from different sources. Some even from the famous Zergas which time will tell what they may actually be. One I bought as Fica Nera Deumane has a huge dark fig that is ripening for the last month off & on. Has a fairly large eye, but tastes pretty much like a celeste(YUM). I'll address that one later too with some pictures. I have others too from the guy, each variety seems to have different leaves, so we'll see. I can't bear to throw them away yet, they might turn out tasty! After I wised up I bought some Marseilles Black VS cuttings from H2 on eBay(YEAH). Also have From Rolling River: Norman's Yellow, Atreano, And Tena. From Willis: Vdb, Panache, Italian Everbearing, and Black Jack. From Burnt Ridge: Stella, Marlow and Flanders. As you can see, quite a menagerie. Anyway wanted to finally say hello! Tim

Hi Tim, from N.E. Texas
I am new here also and enjoying reading all the information available here.

Tim hello from another zone 9 neighbor, only I'm in southeast La. I'm a fig loving nut but have only started my collection. Sounds like you've got the fig bug real bad and quite a collections of trees. Looking forward to pictures and description of the one's you have. Welcome and enjoy the site.

Hi Tim and Welcome.
Like Dan said Pictures appreciated !
Figured out our personalities eh you have no idea.
Cracking up.

Sounds like Tim has already become a Fig Nazi.

hellooo Tim. Watch out for the infectious fig fun and lots of garden work. You sure took off like a rocket with your collection & even have the opportunity to touch base with Zergy. Wowww.
Welcome.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. Look forward to posting more in the near future. About my fig collection, yes I took off like a rocket, and made some mistakes along the way, but now know to take my time and buy from reputable folks here. If not, I'll eventually run out of space. Does anyone know if James Robin has the true LSU Gold? I remember reading that there is more than one that is not squatty like it's supposed to be. Thanks in advance!

Tim

I don't know about JR's LSU gold but I don't have any reason to doubt his are the real thing. Especially considering his location. I picked up a great one from Durio nursery recently that definitely looks to be true judging by the fruit.

I am curious about how your trees from Willis turn out. I have read mixed reviews on them.

Tim,

If Mr Robin sez it is a LSU gold it is a LSU Gold

Cecil

jsvand5---------Thank you for the info. on Durio's LSU Gold. I'll post more on Willis when I know more. The first crop fell off in our heat/drought early in June, but now are setting a new crop, some of which may ripen here before frost. Like I said, I know the Vdb and Panache' are the right ones, but the IT. Everbearing & Black Jack are still in question. I planted these in ground last fall, so I know I'll know for sure next year. My biggest problem here is birds(mockingbirds & Blacks birds) This town is a Bird Sanctuary, so is illegal to "pop" any of them!

Cecil-----Thank you, that's what I thought, but wasn't sure.

Thanks Dan, I read that the other day when you posted it, and wondered if that was the problem that others have talked about, i.e.,their LSU Gold being a regular fig shape instead of flat & squatty which I assume is the main crop shape. They were questioning if their cultivar  was correct.  I'm just trying to learn a little more before I buy one. Tim
