You know when you're a fig addict.....

When you talk about figs using a lot of abbreviations.....My cuttings from UCD of VDB and RDB growing in SWC have a bad case of FMV.

You spend half of your free time reading up on different varieties and the rest of your free time trying to find someone to sell you one.

When fig season is over for you, you stand in your garden rubbing your fig leaves and sniff them because they at least smell like figs and dream about eating them next season.

When you wonder why it took you so long to realize how awesome figs are and wonder how many fig trees you passed by in your life that you missed getting a cutting from.

When you see a fig tree and think,;" mmmm, wonder how I'm gonna get a cutting from that one.

You start mapping every where you've seen a fig tree growing and make plans to revisit the tree when you think it'll have some ripened up some figs.

You feel anxious during fig growing season because you just don't know which of your fig babies will produce that year.

You consider chasing squirrels out of your yard and ask your kids to chase them if you have to step away from your patrol during fig ripening season in your yard.

When your kids think every box the mail man brings you has a fig tree in it.

When you begin to wonder when you will be finally able to stop collecting trees or cuttings then shake of that silly thought because deep down you like figs so much and they bring a little happiness in your corner of the world.

I could think of more but, I think that you get the picture. :)

I know that God loves me because He made so many kinds of figs!

Your driving around NYC with coworkers, just happened to see a fig tree out the window.  You point it out to your coworkers whom think you have lost your mind and don't give two shits about it.  You then find yourself consumed by finding more fig trees.

Great thread!
PotatoChips, I answered "Yes!" to ALL of yours except the squirrels one  (thankfully I don't have that problem, but I have seen that green mexican fruit beetle buzzing around!)
Oh and regarding the first post: I stopped being upset with people that don't appreciate figs. . .
I tell myself "They just aren't ready yet, they'll come around" :)

What about bringing them in for the winter and caring for them at every second of the day (if we could  that is).
thinking what pots to buy for next summer and for which variety.

dreaming about figs, fig leaves and fig roots, root rot being a nightmare.

sharing all of this with people that like figs too.

sums it for me

You have any fig trees that you refer to as "Unknown".

When your family refers to you as "fancy fig man".

When your children's friends refer to you as "fig man" and you reply "I'm just a fig man of your imagination."  (Yes, it just happened to me a few hours ago.;-)

I cant stop thinking about figs. I dream about figs. I think about figs all day. I look at the pictures of figs on here. Sometimes when I'm sad I watch fig videos. There is just something about fig trees that is so peaceful. I look at my trees everyday. I talk to people about figs and they look at me funny, but I cant help it. I drive around looking for fig trees and ask my neighbors about their fig trees. Sometimes I stay up late and eat strawberry jam and pretend I'm eating a black madeira.

LMAO

When you take a bin full of rooted cuttings on vacation with you!

I'm pass addict and going right to fig hoarder.  Between the figs and the orchid being housed in my bedroom I no longer have a place for the furniture.  Hopefully this will improve when the new greenhouse is up and running.

...when you take pictures of your little trees and cuttings -- daily.
...when you sneak out at dawn with your clippers to take cuttings from the trees you find in vacant lots.

...when you tell yourself you can stop anytime while rooting dozens of new varieties with dozens more coming.

Violet is a great name BTW, haha

How's it going Aaron... Yup, baby girl was confirmed not too long ago... My fig count for next summer just got smaller...

You know why daddies call their baby girls Princesses , right?

Because it makes them the King, LOL

Why is your fig count lessening for the coming summer Simon? Babies love ripe figs.

lMAO!!!!
All of the above plus, when every container ,bucket, water bottle, barel etc,is a potential fig tree pot,my latest one a 21 inch laundry basket from Walmart!!!!! Guilty as charged and major fig junkie ! Have a great Friday kids.

And about a half an hour late for work, I rest my case
