You won't believe this!

It started snowing last night around 10pm. Not unusual you say? In Ramona (San Diego) it is!

Woke up just before sunrise to this today! It's so beautiful! Think I can convince my boss I'm "snowed in"? ;-)

I did cover my figs last night...hope that was enough.

It snowed around here 3 times this year, I didn't cover my in-ground young fig trees

They show no damage, That snow in Romona is unusual.......enjoy it!

Wow beautiful Sue, that sure is a different look from when Linda and I visited you in July. I hope it doesn't damage any of your trees.
"gene"

We get snow down to 2000' every 5 years or so...I sure hope my trees survive too. I did cover most with a heavy weed cloth and others I just put under tables. I'm more concerned about my avo and citrus. Tonight is a frost warning, down to 26. Brrrr.

Stay warm Sue!  That storm was supposed to be here this morning, but no sign of it yet.

I guess that's what Jon gets for posting pictures of "paradise"!

Sue, we also got a little snow last night in Tucson--not as much as you, but enough to make my little figs wonder why I had left them outside all night. It's supposed to to hit 27 tonight, so it's time to bring them all in off the wall.

Thanks Sue and TusconKen for posting those pictures.
Wonder how the summer season will be out there in California this year compared to last season.

Ken, sorry to disappoint, but no snow for Jon, just rain. we did get to 40F, but 60F already this afternoon. Sue is out in the boonies, further from the coast and higher elevation.

Well Sue, if is makes you feel any better, it reached 81 for high here in Charlotte!  I can not remember the last time we had temps that high in February.  Usually, we have temps in 40s and 50s.  This weather we are having around the US is unbelieveable!  My trees in my garage and GH are loving it!  cheers,

Jon, I guess it must be paradise after all. I suppose even if Mother Nature ever decides to deliver a dusting of snow to your neighborhood, your front yard fig forest is too dense for much of it to reach the ground!

Looks like I'm going to invest my money on a future ski resort in Paradise.
Jon, How many rows of ski lifts should you suggest we need?

Rafed, better read the whole thread.

I did Jon.
But I don't know, It seems like it's getting closer and closer to you day by day.

I just want to capitalize on the opportunity should someone decides to build a ski resort in Paradise.

Rafed, you'd go broke. All snow was gone by noon. Sure was pretty while it lasted though!

@Jon, I am NOT in the boonies. I'm only half-way there. ;-)

Sue,

First of all, The pics you posted are post card perfect!
The third one would make a beautiful Christmas card.

Second, There is this dude in San Diego we like to pick on. I won't mention any names. It is a secret.
I'll give you only one hint however, He loves Brown Turkey figs!
Did you guess who it is?

Last Januari we got ice covered tree,s than the cold front to about 3 below zero, than a week later 14 inches of snow and a cold front right after that to 4 degrees below zero. Guess what? Today all my figtree's show no damaged, they all are green just the tips are brown. I useally cut the tops off anyway to encourage side branching.

Sue's not in the boonies. It was the boonies 40 years ago but not anymore!!

Paul,

Ya git dere on a two lane roadd. It's the boooonies.

Thank you Paul,

Jon, Just because the two-lane road becomes a 1 1/2 lane road before becoming a dirt road does not make it the boonies. ;-) The boonies have moved to Julian and Ranchita!

By the way, minimal cold damage to the figs. I did have one pot whose leaves curled and withered but I think it will be OK. It was a UCD cutting from last year. All others look good, citrus and avo too.

Sue,

It didn't seem that it was as cold as predicted. Glad everything looks good.

Sue
Sunday night we had a forecast of 10" snow here but we got only 6.5". We were wondering (happily) where did the rest go !!

Your photos are beautiful. They would make gorgeous Christmas cards.

I wish we had snow on Sunday. We got 2" of snow on Friday. By Sunday evening it was 65F & the storm pushed through fast. Straight line winds snapped limbs from two of our trees.  I'll have to reattach one fascia cover that was hit by a limb as it fell into our tiny backyard. We were plunged into the darkness for only 2 1/2 hours.  I can't believe I'm wishing for snow.

Beautiful pictures I agree with Rafed that the third would make a beautiful Christmas card.
