Your First Fig Tree

We all remember our very first fig tree right ?
So which one was yours ?

Hi Martin
I could never forget my first. Her name is Celeste and I still have her.

my first fig tree was a conadria fig tree, from homedepot.

A Pleached  3~n~1 Tree(  Negronne, Black Mission and a King).   that I inherited from my EX-Inlaws in Northern California.

Mine is from Gurnery's, "dwarf Hardy outdoor fig tree" I still have it. It has some of the sweetest fig I have. It really dose not grow much every year. She is about 6 years old now. I have made 3 air layers so far. I've have no luck with cuttings. Frank

The first tree I bought was my Cajun Gold (LSU not), the first tree I got from a member was cuttings of Negronne from Rafed. The original Cajun Gold was eaten by termites but not before I was able to get 2 new trees from her. The Negronne still hasn't given me a fig yet, maybe this year, year 3.

Celeste. Planted it about 10yrs ago. It is my workhorse today. --> Lots of preserves. Even though it drops fruit it makes up for it by making more...

Hey, Martin, you forgot to answer your own question.

Jon, you didn't answer either.

My first two (one for my daughter, one for my son) were 'Brown Turkey' and 'Black Mission'.  We planted them about 16 years ago and both turned out to be 'Celeste'.  They rarely (if ever) drop fruit and only split during the heaviest of rains.

It's very funny how Martin and Jon get along. Brings a smile to my face! Our first fig tree was a mission fig tree, which is found in most local nurseries... Now, we know there is actually a myriad of varieties of fig trees we can choose from!

Unknown yellow fig for Colisanti's farm, large yellow with pinkish pulp, still in the ground.

My first fig was also the white/Yellow fig from Colasanti Farms. Wich was a very special fig to me for personal reason's sad to say my stupid Freakin dog destroyed it the day my daughter was born but I was lucky enough to get a replacement 2 months later.

First purchased fig tree years ago, a Mission. It died young due to lack of water. mea culpa.

I grew a tree from a seed and eight years later no fruit so I let it freeze.
This year I get my trees delivered in May. They are: Black Mission, Lsu Gold, Hardy Chicago, and Kadota. I look forward to seeing what happens and also adding to the collection.

The first tree I purchased was a "hardy dwarf" from Gurneys I think. But the tree that got me started was my mother-in-law's. Prior to dating my now-wife the only figs I had tasted were of the Newton variety and I disliked them intensely. It took a bit of cajoling from the wife to try theirs fresh from the tree, but once I did I was hooked.

I bought an Excel fig tree from a local nursery and have never looked back.

I bought a new to me house that came with a Brown Turkey about two years ago. I had had a bad bad allergic reaction to figs some years ago but bravely ate one remembering the farmers selling little bags at honor stands in rural Virginia. And now I have about 70 varieties and eat them every chance I get. Sycosis?

Sycosis should be in the FAQ ; b

I bought a Brown Turkey 6 years ago at a nursery. This will be its first season in good shape to fruit because of pine bark mini nuggets, cold winters, and overfertilization. It has had it rough but I have not messed with it at all for 2 years and it is happy now. I am looking forward to the figs, the ones on it when I bought it were very sweet from what I remember, and I think it may actually be a Celeste. It has lots of tiny brebas showing right now so I finally get to find out what it is this year hopefully, I do not want wait another year.

The first fig tree I purchased was a Brown Turkey 3 years ago from a mail order nursery. The twig arrived in the mail, looking like I just burned  away $12.95 plus shipping... Not knowing what I was doing, I planted this stick with a few roots in a half barrel, and to my surprise it not only thrived, but I got a fig that same year... This is when the fig bug was re-ignited in me...having grown up in a family where everyone grew a fig tree, I started asking my Dad, uncles, about their fig growing techniques and picked up cuttings/small plants from them... I owe it all to that little stick that I received in the mail...then I discovered this forum.

I got my first fig tree from Henry Fields about 10 years ago. Don't know what type it was. It lived 2 years then passed away. Then I got a Hardy Chicago about 4 years ago and now I'm a full fledged figaholic. 14 different trees now. Some named and some mystery trees.

My first fig tree was a Hardy Chicago from Lowes about 5 years ago. It produced a couple figs the year after I got it and that was the first time I had ever tasted a fresh fig.

2 years ago I got my first fig tree, a natalina from Grimo.
had one fig off of it last year,
