Zaino's Black Italian

Here are a few pics of my exceedingly late ripening Zainos Black Italian. Not bad but probably would have been better with some heat.

Nice!..looking anyways...Long Island?

Yes, the tree was purchased from Zainos Nursery on Long Island.

Johnnie , my Z's Italian Blk are still ripening a couple also. What was your take on the taste? Mine were juicy , not overly sweet but good , not seedy . Were your figs interiors reddish - hard to tell by the pic?

Good looking fig.  It's funny how different climate can make a big difference in taste.  Thanks for sharing.

They were not overlt sweet but they did have a distinctive cantalope taste to them. I still have a few more ripening but its getting pretty cold here upstate.

This season is no year to judge any fig's taste.  I bet this will be a very nice fig in future seasons with the right heat, and sun.  I wonder if it's a "late" fig, or, if it's just late in ripening because of the strange weather throughout most of the season?  Only time will tell what kind of a track record this fig will have.

Keep us posted.  Possibly some pics of leaves, fruit, etc....then, let the games begin, as to just what "Zaino's Black Italian" might be/resemble.

Frank

I hope that is the case Frank. It seems that all my trees were at least a month behind where they should have been. My Hardy Chicago is still ripening it's last figs now as well. Many of my trees have already dropped their developing figs and some never even started. We were actually getting frost warnings up here into June and the summer never really happened here in Zone 5B.
