Hey Martin,

   Is this a backup????? hahahah

Those leaves are massive. I gave all of my Zidis away because I heard they need to be pollinated. I hope it bears for you.

Yeah there decent size leaves as were the ones at first on young Grise Olivette which at time i showed picture of leave on forum covering top of 5 gallon bucket now are normal size few years later as its maturing.

True, Zidi does require pollination but those at UCD were to die for! And the tree at UCD was huge!

Does it need to be pollinated with another tree or if fig wasp is present only one tree. Could you self pollinate??? And if you could self pollinate, when would you have to do? At what stage of growing? Has anyone tried this in the past?

luke

Luke it was tried on a tree at Belleclare i read i forget if it was a san pedro type or what but giberelic acid spray was used at certain time and the next several seasons it ripened the crop of figs.
It was posted on GW forum long time ago.

On another website i read  giberelic acid  may be used for Noire de Caromb to stop the breba's from fallin off.

This reminds me!

I need to cull-out my still little Zidi specimen from my fig collection.

Should my Nazarti go through the same fate?

I wish that UCD  clearly id their 'Smyrna' type figs...

You can send it my way. Zidi is one I'd like to try to see if it would successfully fruit here. I do not know if there is fig wasp in my part of California or not, but it's both to the N and S of my location. I've read of a fig grower within 100 miles who keeps them and the 'right' trees for fig wasp continuity. Or something. I don't think the wasps have a very large range however.

Hey, George

It appears that Nazarti is either a Smyrna or a San Pedro Type. Mine is dropping main crop figs. Anyone not in CA getting breba or main crop from it?

Martin, George,
I too will be happy to give your smyrna figs a good home. I do have the wasp though sparse. Once I get a couple caprifigs to fruit I'll have my own supply of wasps. Won't that be heaven!
