beautiful, you've got the perfect climate for these two.

Impressive! They look perfect.

Are they pollinated? Is the Zidi a small eye?

Would like to see inside if the birds are so kind as to leave them for you.

Francisco, wonderful, beautiful figs. This is the main crop?

Thank you for commenting.

Bass,
You right this is perfect fig land but excessively dry

mic,
Well.  both fruit did effectively get pollinated.
Zidi being a full Smyrna variety, if not pollinated it wouldn't be here
Violeta is a Common thus not needing it. But in a wasp environment I believe it may had a wasp visit
Smyrna types are not tight eyes and Zidi is not an exception but it's perfectly acceptable.
Just in case,  heere a picture of the insides from a last year fig

Completely awesome!  Francisco, You lucky dog!   Zidi is one of my favorite figs to eat!  I wish everyone could taste this fig!!!!!  Taste like eating thick, rich chewy super sweet and tangy mulberries!  It's the first tree I run to at UCD!

Dennis,

Thank you. You are absolutely right and, note that there other Smyrnas well in the same category!
This fig regardless its own particularities limiting its culture to a few and appropriate climates is a winner.
Growing it for a couple of years in pots, I may say now that regarding pollination it is very 'easy going' , being receptive for a long period of time. This could well be a plus for someone out of the 'fig lands' to try some experimentations.

Hi lampo,
Nice fruits !

Those are so beautiful, Francisco. Zidi is the fig that made me want to plant a caprifig and introduce the wasps to my area. I have both planted in ground, now I need patience. I think I'll visit Harvey if I can figure out when his Zidis ripen. Thanks for the photos!

Thank you jdsfrance

Gary,
Thank you.
I Am sure you did the right thing.. try and get those two together and taste the resulting jewels.
I believe your area to have quite acceptable climate for the success of such exercise.
Even if the Caprifigs do not come up easy, think that you are so close to places with plenty of them that a dozen or two sent on UPS will solve any eventual problem

Francisco, that is absolutely mouth watering!

I guess they are not tight eyes otherwise it would be harder for the wasps.  Are the leaf shapes distinctive?

Mic,

With Smyrna figs, tight eyes are not a problem for the tiny wasps.
By the time these figs become receptive, they develop a chemical process and certain hormones (pheromones) are made free to the environment, acting as invisible magnets pulling the pollinating insects to those figs.
At the same time the area around the eye is softened to help the insect with its powerful mandibles to lift the bracts around the ostiole and sneak into the cavity. (wasps do not drill a hole as such!)
I believe that these natural processes, are true for all figs reaching receptiveness.

Zidi leaves are big, typically five wide lobes
