Hi Remis, i see in your last post that your from Romeoville, Illinois. Im also in Illinois and saw you fig plants on side of house with mulch underneath. Im curious how you go about protecting growing inground as last season was very cold are they facing southwards. One more question if you do not mind is this spring did you have any die back because of this past cold winter and also how old are those plants. Its always nice to hear how other make it work for them especially in the coler zones. I grow mine in containers for now.

Martin, This is my 1 st year of growing figs. For past couple years I had " growing figs" on my mind I wanted to have a fig tree. Then one day I looked up on Goggle info about figs. I found GW forum I so that 1st week I probably spent 20 hours of reading posts about figs. Then I went to Ted`s greenhouse in Tinley Park IL and bought 3 fig plants. So I planted 2 trees in 5 gal pots and one in the ground to see difference in growth ,the one in the ground grew a lot more faster. When I planted it I thought to live in the ground for Winter (wrap, cover like it should be done) and see what happens. This fig grew very nice and now I am not sure if I want to leave in ground or dig it and pot in container for Winter. I also have Brown Turkey in the ground I may take risk and see if it will over Winter outside , I heard they`re hardy ? I also tried to root few fig cuttings ,1st cutting that I rooted I gave it to my parents now its about 12" big and live in Lithuania I sure my parents will take good care of it. Hoping to have long relationship of growing figs, and be more active on the forum. That is my story. Remis
