While visiting my friend with the 3 Madeira fig trees this past weekend, she pointed me in the direction of another sweet fig in the area. I stopped by and took some picutres. They are a bit blury as it was very windy. The tree wouldn't stay still! ;-) It's a yellow fig with deep red pulp. What's unique about it is the red ring on its skin surrounding the ostiole. It does have a very open eye. Of all the figs on the tree, I only saw one that was split. The owner wasn't home or I would have tried to find out more about this tree. I'll keep checking back when in the area. He prunes the tree to the trunk every year so I'm going to ask him for the trimmings. I'm pruning my friend's 3 trees in Feb as well. Lots of cuttings next year. :-)http://www.susanvanderveen.com/FIGS/SaratogaFig/Saratoga.html Has anyone seen a fig like this? Sue

Now that's what I call a pretty fig. The cracked one is just begging to be eaten. I wish I were close enough to put it out of it's misery. Thanks for the pictures. "gene"

Unfortunately they were not ripe when I was there. Hope to try one in a week or so when the owners are home and some fruits are ripe. It's a pretty fig! I'm excited to have found it. The challenge now is to find out what it is! Sue

May be someone used tainted red olive oil on the fig eye to expedite ripening!
