Hello Marius, my name is Jeff I'm new here. That looks like a very intriguing variety. If you dont mind me asking how did you obtain this variety? I would love to have one. I am sure there is a good story behind it. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

Hi Marius, Patty S. here.  Lovely fig!  I am always looking for good green or gold figs here.  The birds U squirrels tend to leave them alone.  I can have tons of figs on my Panache, and the handful I have on my VdB get eaten.  I was able to cage in my new RdB, so I actually got to eat the few I had on it this year.  Very pretty fig, and bet I'd have figs well into the fall out here in N. San Diego county.

Hi Marius.  What an interesting fig!  How long into the autumn did it continue to stay green?  (I'm guessing it can't still be going... November 30, zone 6... though looks like it was still just one month ago!).  Did you keep it indoors to keep it ripening so long?  (What sort of environmental conditions?)

Mike,no more leaves and figs on november, the 12th, after the first frost,22 degrees for 3 days.I have this fig inground, near a brick wall, and survive two winters with very light protection. This will be the first winter when i will not protect anymore any of my inground fig trees!Too much work and money spend...will see.

How old is it at this point? Can we assume that part of your decision not to protect your in-ground trees is that they have reached a certain maturity?

No, Dale.To be honest to you,it's about the "war" with my darling wife, about $30 protection for each tree(mulch,isolation,tarp...),and i have  60 trees inground around my house...every year, every fall....no more comment. That's the reason i have so big,so huge cuttings this year.

Marius, is there a website or someone that sells this variant? My son loves bananas and I think this might be a variant he might like.
Thanks for sharing these with us!

I would think our Jon would want this one, since he's got so many varieties of bananas!  Thanks for sharing another of your special figs!

Thanks for the info Marius.  Please let us all know how well it survives the winter.  I know there are a bunch of us northerners who are interested in that topic (winter protection and cold hardiness).  Third winter sounds a little bit iffy, but hopefully the wall protects it from cold wind, and provides it a little extra heat.  Really interested to hear how it does through the winter.  (And if it does well, also to hear what else you did... e.g. how severely you pruned in the fall, whether left any growing tips exposed, etc.).  Good luck with it Marius!

Mike   central NY state, zone 5

p.s.  good luck also with the family discussions about winter protection.  :-)   Another option on that front would be to just protect some of them (the most vulnerable).

Marious, with these many trees, do you have excess figs for sale? Do you make jam?

Every time this trail is updates, I see this banana fig, I start drooling. What is wrong with me?
