It's early April, and my trees broke dormancy. We had very warm days reaching 90°, I spent the entire week moving my trees out. I only took out about 50%. It's cool now with lows in mid 30's. I'm hoping we don't get frost anymore. It would be hard moving all these trees back into storage. I already injured my back.



This Black Madeira is from last year. I picked one yesterday and ate it, it was okay.



Lots of brebas showing on my Red Lebanese fig tree. It is grown in a self watering container.



Here's the larger pots, you can see these large black Brazil figs getting bigger.



Here's a planting of 4 different trees spaced at 4' between them. I used this black plastic, also called black mulch. It acts as weed blocker as to warm up the soil. I will share the results of this method later in the season.

Beautiful, Bass. Mine, not that many, are outside too and about the same
stage of leafing. I hope they don't freeze tonight. Predicted 37*. There is a strong cold wind too. Lets hope for the best.

What low temperature forecast will make you move or cover the plants?
I have brought out my plants and placed them near a south facing wall. Currently the forecast for Tuesday night is -1C (freezing, below 32F) and I am concerned.

Hi Bass,
i like that you growing them in black pots i cant get enough of those , but they really heat up nice in our type climate.
Your so neat in your arrangement of pots .
Kind of like creating a small climate in that area of warmth with those black pots kept together it seems.
Bass we had a low of 24 last night im glad i brought mine in garage and half a foot of snow in Wisconsin we were lucky here.
Please keep posting them great pictures when you can like last season i really enjoy those.

Edit: forgot to metion those plant under the plastic should do well im betting ,
some do that here with vegtables in spring to warm up soil faster.

I like Bass news that the B.Maderia tasted good. I left a few main crop figs from last season on. They are firm like a rock like the Canadian dollar coin size. My trees outside right beside the house are leafing with lots of brebas on Latarulla, Barbillone, Tony's Greek & Osborne Prolific. None of the trees in the garage have leafed out with exception of brebas present on trees where sunlight bath them. The good news is most trees are showing green buds.

Trees showing that much growth, can be damaged by temperatures reaching 32°F. Here's a study that was done for common fruit trees and spring frost. frost damage.

Good luck Bass, very nice. I had one tree out earlier this year, had same amount of growth, I thought I brought them all in and it got zapped at 32.  the leaves were all mushy and limp next day. I just cut it down an inch or so, now the buds are forming on lower on tree and opening All trees came in last night. Summer to winter in 24 hours, what roller coaster weather.  Ciao

I put my bronze paradiso in my balcony 2 weeks ago as the weather has been nice here but after being hit with frost two days all the brebas fell off and new growth has turned limp over night, oops. Nice looking plants by the way Bass

Just checked, plum tree survived the night it is loaded with flowers and leaves, it didn't get as low as predicted. Weather man said it was going to be below 30. Its 36F outside, still have to wait for sun to come up though. Its going to be a hold breath for next couple nights here. Monday is the bad night again, but really warm and nice during the days. Eagle eye open anyone in our area with precious leafed out fig trees. Ciao

bass,
your figs look great. good pictures. i have grown vegetables under plastic for years.  it works really good to control weeds, thus eliminating the trees competition for nutrients and moisture.  the way we do it we first work in fertilizer in the soil, then we lay drip tape irrigation, then plastic, then set our plants. later in the growing season we use a flowable fertilizer and run it through our irrigation drip tape which is near the plant and under the plastic.  it is very easy and requires very little labor after u set it up.  i grew a 187 pound watermelon last year that won first place at our fair last year. that method works well for us and i hope it does for you, but DO NOT FORGET WATER UNDER THAT PLASTIC.

Thanks for the tip, I'm planning to get some simple irrigation system installed. I did place some slow release fertilizer that should be good for the entire growing season. I'm trying to find a drip hose that will do the job.

bass, i have used the black irrigation tubing from home depot, with the flag drippers (don't get clogged easily)  with a lot of success.  put that sucker on an automatic timer and it's so easy.  i have a few thousand feet of that stuff, works great.

Bass very nice, that green house is the ticket for your climate it seems. I'm sure a drip system will do well, hopefully your water source is not so far. If you plan on it being permanent the material would have to be able to withstand the cold temps even if it is purged before the cold sets in.
