First off, this is not intended to initiate a discussion on what has previously proven to be a very controversial subject. Around late 2012 I purchased Genovese Nero cuttings from Rob on eBay and the resulting trees have been vigorous and productive. The leaf shape on my trees is not consistent with what is considered normal for this variety introduced by Adriano in Canada. Rob has insisted that he made no switch and I believe him, but that is besides the point. There's a possibility that there could have been some accidental mix-up but Rob has told me that he doesn't believe so (he provided me with a list of other varieties he has grown and it doesn't match any of those). I'm not sure what to make of this situation. One other member Genovese Nero from another source that is deemed to be reliable and one of his branches does form deeply lobed leaves like mine. In addition, at least some of his fruits appear similar to what my tree produces. Gary (figgary) has a tree from me and he agrees that there is an apparent similarity. Both Gary and I have harvested some fruits that we consider to be very good, though Gary's tree is younger and wasn't as productive yet. In any event, it is my opinion that cuttings from my three trees should be grown by others for evaluation. I have discussed this matter with several others who agree, including some who certainly did not agree with some of the position statements I took this past summer on F4F. They have supported my decision to sell these cuttings on eBay with the explanation I've given in my eBay auction. I have priced these cuttings at what is a modest price of $10 each, plus shipping. Half of the proceeds will be donated to the charity of my choice, Unbound. My wife and I sponsor three children and their families through this organization. If you care to know more about Unbound, read https://www.unbound.org/OurImpact/WhoWeAre for more information (my family has seen their work in person several times on mission awareness trips). I'll make a little bit of money from this but not much after the donation and eBay and PayPal fees, but that's not the point. I request that anyone who chooses to purchase these cuttings that they be carefully labeled and, if they are every shared with someone else, to ask that they label them carefully. Thanks.

Great explanation and price. What's Rob's last name (or initial)? I'd like to label it R_. I've already bought mine. 100 cuttings from a 2 yr old fig - that's impressive!

Harvey, I missed whatever happened and am still "on the mend" so I have no idea what the controversy is. I bought cuttings from Rob as well and got 2 trees. This one ripened figs on 9-26 and here are two not so great photos. If I can help you let me know. mgg Thanks again for the excellent chestnuts. I also bet I owe you something and my brain has been way too fried to remember but I hope I'll get to these things ASAP . . . once I find my notes. It currently looks like a bunch of drunk chickens had a party in my office and threw in a couple of hand grenades as they left.

Harvey did ask me about this and did run the auction idea past me, not that he needs my permission. I was one of the most vocal in the controversy last year as all this naming confusion annoys me to no end. Do hope people label the plants as Robs GN until we know for sure. Think Harvey explained it well in the listing and was very clear.

I purchased a cutting from Harvey last night. Took me to 1:30am to recover my paypal password, kept getting error messages that made no sense and finally got it done in a different browser. Thanks for sharing Harvey. Looking forward to some juicy fruit! Hopefully my cutting takes. As soon as I paid I regretted not buying a second. Guess I'll be doing a lot of praying that I bat 100! hehe Sadly my track record is way below .500, but I got a good feeling this is my year!

Thanks, everyone. Bob, the initials are RD but I suggest everyone label it "Rob's Genovese Nero" for the sake of consistency. Another forum member sold cuttings from their tree that originated from the same source as "RGNN" without explaining what that meant (posted here once to mean Rob's Genovese Nero Not) and I know of at least one person that bought it who already had a tree from me. I thought keeping the name simple and clear was best. Michael, I'll get back to you. :)

Harvey mentioned that I have a young tree also, so I thought I'd share pics. Much larger than Michael's fruit. My neighbor liked it so much, she asked if I'd start one for her.

Just want to highlight that the Rob that Harvey is referring to (initials RD) is not the member here at f4f whose screen handle is Rob (initials RB). (I'm not saying anyone has mixed them up yet, I just don't want that to happen, especially since it seems like it might be easy to do.)

I'm good with Rob's GN. :) I like that it keeps the GN part but is distinct. Your solution is great.

Gorgi, I have the beginnings of a web site at http://www.figaholics.com but didn't have time to set up a shopping cart, etc. there so I still just do eBay. Some day.... Your Black Madeira is coming along. You asked for either a rooted cutting or cuttings and I've got your name on one cutting I got started, but none are going gangbusters. The plant I got from you did great after that tragic start! :)

I've had a few people inquire about direct sales instead of eBay and I'm fine with that. The same donation to charity will be made as well. Just send me either a PM or email and I'll provide PayPal instructions. I have a couple of dozen or so left plus some extras in case some end up getting lost in the mail, etc.

Okay, I'm coming out! :) I thought I would address one issue that is likely on the minds of some members that are aware of the controversy behind this variety/strain. Rafed and I are on good speaking terms these days and he communicated his full support of this sale. He was fully aware of my plans prior to me starting the auction. The only concern he expressed was that the price was too low. If anyone agrees, feel free to make an additional contribution directly to Unbound or St. Jude's Hospital.

Thanks again, buys. Look forward to seeing how this fig does in different climates, soil, etc. I have Genovese Nero from another source now and will be growing it next to this one to compare and know that some others are doing the same.
