I started various cuttings in bags, and when they rooted I put them into clear cups with perlite. Every few days I give them some water. They've been in the greenhouse for the past week and its gotten very hot in there. Some of the leaves have gotten dry too. Is the greenhouse too hot for them? How often should I be watering them? __________________ Pennsylvania, Zone 6B

This is a tricky question. Its easy to over water and under water them. Also the Perlite can probably get to wet and immediately kill them. Some others will chime in on using perlite. Not sure on the temp....???? __________________ Armando in the Heart of California

It's probably too much heat, you wouldn't believe how hot the green house can get. I have a thermometer in mine and it gets up to around 119 degrees in there. That's too hot for small trees and cuttings. It can also be that the humidity is too low, you can try putting a plastic bag over the cuttings to make like a tent so that the humidity rises and slowly over a week or two raise the bag up so the tree gets used to less and less humidity. If it's plain perlite that doesn't generally stay wet very long unless there is a lot of very fine perlite-dust. Photos of the medium, roots and leaves might help. Hi, Do you vent the greenhouse ? How do you control the temp ? I managed to cook a pumpkin plant under a plastic sheet as the temps suddenly rise two weeks ago. So if the temps rise, you should let the door of the greenhouse opened or even get the plants out of the greenhouse... __________________ ------------------------ Climate from -25°C to + 35°C Only cold hardy figtrees can make it here

The greenhouse I'm using is the $40 one from Lowe's. It has an open bottom so there is some air getting in there. As for the Perlite, I'm not sure about the size...it's the Miracle-Gro bag from Lowe's as well. I just went outside and took them from the greenhouse. The perlite was really hot to the touch, so I think I'll take them in. I just hope I didn't kill them! :-( __________________ Pennsylvania, Zone 6B
