  • It was picked this morning.
  • Excellent delicious flavor.
  • This is a breba crop.
  • First person to guess what it is wins his/her choice of green or dormant cuttings of this variety. (US only)

No right answer yet.
Okay I'll help narrow it down.... It's the first time I try the breba of this variety so there's no breba photo of this fig on treesofjoy.com yet.

And the winner is Debbie. This is a breba from a brooklyn dark. Debbie contact me.
Last year I practiced grafting figs, so I used a bud from a Brooklyn Dark into a seedling fig. This year I got a breba on it. I had the Brooklyn Dark in ground for years, and I don't cover it and sprouts back, but I lose the breba. This year the graft produced a breba.

Surprise, surprise! Now I do see it.
Congrats, Debbie.

BTW,
It is similar (but not same) to Sal(C).

Apparently, three NE fig-people found 3 differently-located
(very similar, and possible the same) mother trees in the NE area;
 me, Bass and Al.
"GM#17", "Brooklyn Dark" and "Sicilian Red".

I have seen the fruit skin changing colors.
It starts as red/green (some stripes), to all-red (wine), and finally almost-black (when very ripe).
The fruit shape also changes shape.
It starts almost round (think golf-ball for shape/size) and then it elongates as it fully ripens.

Fruit is very sweet.
It is a rather late fig. It does ripen a significant number of  fruits here,
but some does not make it before the cold arrives...
[I do my observations of GM#17, mostly by visiting the inground mother tree.]

@Dom, that's the main reason I didn't guess with that answer.  But I already have one that's about 18" tall right now so I would've wanted to re-gift the cutting.

Let me doublecheck and make sure I don't have a spare.  If you don't hear anything from me in the next 24-48 hours, drop me a private message for a reminder to look.  If I have a spare, I'll be happy to send to you in the fall (after temps are below 75ยบ @ mid-day) if you're interested in the variety.
